Trundle

agree entirely about Trundle - immense- a real joy to see a great player playing to his capacity even if he played for the opposition. But he can do better than Norwich and Southampton.
PS did you see Lewis do the back of his calf (and his sock) when he was keeping the ball in a corner. Ouch. Hope the FA don't view the video.

the best thing about Trundles performance was that the numerous scouts at todays match will be focusing very much on him and not our Freddy and hopefully Trundle will not be Swansea player come February. As for the actual match , I cant remember ever seeing a player having as many touches as Trundle on their chest - they knocked it into him time after time and we were unable to stem the supply to him - as for the goals , did no one else notice that Trundle fouled ( elbow to Coles face) in winning back possession immediately before their 1st goal and it should have been a free kick to us. As for Freddy being marked out of the game ! lets be honest he had a STINKER today , his first touch was awful and his head went down in frustration early on and he just didnt look busy enough IMHO

I'd agree, he wants to do well but the only way he'll leave the Swans is if he's being payed well, smart move of Tilly to praise his ar$e off though.
That was 80 minutes too late.

Swansea took out Cole and Maher in the first 15 minutes to stop us playing.

It took us to the 85th minute to do what should have been done in the 5th minute!! Yes Trundle has good control and all the touches, but if I come up against a showboater in the sunday league I'll clatter him - guarantee he'll soon stop ball juggling! We should have done the same to him!

Trundle showed his class today and answered our abuse in the best possible way by scoring but let's himself down by diving all the time

As many have already said, whether he'd have been as effective had we bothered to mark him is another question entirely...

If I am a Premier$hite or Championship chairman there is absolutely no way I'd spend 2 million quid on an overweight 29 year old that hasn't really played at a higher level than league 1. 2 million quid is relatively a lot more than it used to be.
That said. For a league 1 game, defeat admitted. Trundle is class and an absolute pleasure to watch. And I would love him at the Hall.

Quote[/b] (OlvisIII @ Nov. 12 2005,20:58)]but pushing Trundle into the lilimelight should take the heat off Freddy with the big clubs!!
I think Eastwood made a good enough job of taking himself out of the limelight yesterday.

What is all this UTTER b******s about being marked too tightly ! Do NOT try to defend the indefensible. Yesterday was teed up for the Eastwood-Trundle show and Eastwood bottled it. Made a token stab at jumping for the odd high ball certainly didn't make himself available and wanting the ball the same way Trundle did. A referee would have stopped the contest in the first minute.

Lee Trundle, sheer class and (as someone else has posted) by far and away the best away performance seen at the hall for a long, long time. Compare the two players ? Not on yesterday's performance. It's very easy to score goals against mickey mouse defenders. Trundle can do it against anyone.

Hopefully all you Barrett admirers can wake up and smell the coffee now. I'm hoping for another central defender in the transfer window as Spinner/Eagle would be too slow to play together. We could then put Barrett left back, his natural position and put Cheese out to pasture. Harsh on Che after his last few performances though.

Still all is not doom and gloom. We are still surpassing all expectations even if (that's IF) the bubble has burst. Gray should now be rightfully restored to the starting line up and on performances like yesterday's JCR is going to become a real crowdpleaser. That run back and tackle in the first half was a joy to watch. He was the only player wanting the ball and looking dangerous. Would have liked him to whip some early balls in but cannot fault his energy.

Totally agree.

Trundle was class yesterday we all admit that, it was a dissapointment however that we didn't even try to deal with him.

When you play a player as good as him and he's taking the mick with all his tricks and skill, you do him early on to let him know you are there and he isn't going to get an easy ride, which should hopefully knock his confidence and boost yours if he reacts to it.

Not one of our players yesterday put in a good hard challenge on him which could have shook him up a bit and affected his perfromance. We gave him far to much space to do all his fancy stuff, and we payed for it big time.

On another note, I didnt realise that Trundle is 29! This obviously answers the question that why hasnt a really big club came in for him. He obviously likes being a big fish in a small pond.

Agree Freddy didnt have his best game, but he did score and put us back in the game which is mroe than anyone else did. Not just sticking up for him coz its Freddy, but I always think if your striker plays average and still scores, its a good sign.

An arthritic granny with cateracts could have put that ball in the net picking the crusts out of her flange at the same time.

Everyone can praise Lee Trundle as much as they want but I'm thinking he will be with a different team before the end of the season, he is to good for swansea and teams are putting bids on him all the time, they turned one down last week!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would make sense for Everton to take a gameble on Trundle, they're goal shy this season, and he loves Everton and wants to play, so why don't they take a risk, pay about a million for him, (even though he's 29 and chubby)
its not like they're short from the sales of Rooney and Graversen, i don't think its a huge risk for the,, but maybe for him, as he could get frozen out their squad, whereas a garrenteed start for swans. who knows

Trundle was the difference between the sides on saturday. The winner of the game was decided by how the defences coped with the hot shots up front. Swansea marshelled Eastwood better than we marshelled Trundle. Simple As.

As for Trundle, the boy is something else. The whole of Showboat on Soccer Am could be him, with a bit of JCR. He is the only non-Southend United player that I would happily spend my money to watch in this League. Outrageously skilled. But all this talk about a one man team isn't fair. The other fella upfront was class as well, but in a different way. Swansea, on their performance, were the best side to visit the Hall since I started coming back in 2001. They had more desire, more passion and simply wanted it more. They had done their homework. Their targetted Maher, and forced him from the field of play. That won them the game, we were all at sea for the period he spent off until we scored. The only players to come out with credit for the game on saturday are Gray, Beno, JCR, Maher, Gutts, Cole and Bartman. Lewis Hunt had his worst game in a Southend United shirt I've seen. Eagle and Barrett couldn't cope with the class and strength of the Swansea front line.

We needed the ball out wide to JCR, who was easily our best player and looked to be the only one that cared, and to Mitch who both had the beating of their men.

I read in the papers that Trundle admits that he has not played to his potential.  He knows he is too large and was more so in his early years.  He recently sorted himself out when he had a kid I believe, this gave him some focus and he has got himself together, he admitted he works at his game now...

Personally I can see him playing for a Championship team...Swansea next year.  The way he dropped off our back four to collect the ball was simple but very effective at this level, Maher/and the centrebacks should have got wise far ealier. Suprised it didnt get sorted when Maher went off in the  first half for stitches.

The difference between Trundle/Eastwood?  Both great players of course. Trundle took a goal and created a goal.  Eastwood bagged one but missed a sitter, if he had got his brace then he would've shared the headlines on Sunday.

but, Eastwood has another 10 years to make his name in the game, hopefully with Southend, hopefully in a higher league, whereas Trundle is in the glorious Autumn of his carreer.

Trundle IS a good player but are Swansea a good team? I didn't rate the other forward much, he seemed about 1/2 stone overweight. Everything goes through LT, i'm sure if he could take the goal kicks & get the flick on he would!!

Wel i thought they were good, playing at our place. They've got big lads and closed us down. We really struggled 1st half i can only remember us getting 1 poor shot in. So they were dominant. Trundle is obviously the shininhg start in an otherwise workmanlike team. But they are top of the league...

I take your point about their other wideboy forward but TBF he bangs in the goals too!
