Question Transfer Deadline today?

I assume it's transfer deadline day today. Does the window close at Midnight?

So are we going to see any activity today? My opinion is we need at least a CB, we lose any of our current defenders and then we are putting square pegs in round holes again, we cannot go forward with the current number of defenders at the club. We lose Barrett for instance and not only do we lose a CB but we also lose any cover at LB.

Thanks for the precision...........thought it was today but now remember talk of a days extension due to the Bank Holiday. Praying for at least two or three loanees. If there's nothing I think we're really going to struggle.

before the season started we all said that we would probably dominate games but didnt have the defence to win games if the goals dried up ... well the proof is in the league table - playing well but 19th !

We do if we want to keep them for more than 93 days, this is where we came unstuck last season with all the loanees going back just before christmas and endind up nosediving and Robert Milsom etc.

Can't say for sure, but I think Stockport haven't signed anyone either due to their financial difficulties too...

Agree ...........but I don't think that another attacking option is out of the question. Perhaps it was rather pointless but I did address, in my earlier 'Reflections and Anxieties' thread, the question as to how we would have fared if we had signed Theo for £275000. Perhaps some of those draws would have ended in wins and perhaps, just perhaps, we would still be involved in the Carling Cup? A third round draw against a top team may have gone some way to paying his fee. I KNOW it wasn't going to be ....
.........but interesting to speculate, never the less.

This has been the case for getting on for 3 years now though, certainly since Hammell's departure back to Motherwell.

I know we've had serious targets that have gone elsewhere but it's criminal to be honest that more of a permanent attempt to shore up the defence has not been made.

Think about the decent players (who were ours) who've not been adequately replaced, Sodje, Prior, Hammell and now Clarke (and even arguably Flavs) as well as the temporary cover who for whatever reasons have not been enticed to stay for longer; Mulgrew, Dervitte, Harding, Federici...

Plainly obvious that we need more bodies in... Especially with Heath/White not being retained. The club, players and management can hide behind whatever excuse they want, be it we've been playing well but have been unlucky or the fact referee's are having their say, but the fact remains that we've Played 5 and Won 0.

This season, more than any previous, is not one to start slowly in.

To be fair though, we have been linked to quite a few players during this transfer window, and have been close to signing two (Irekpen and Chorley) on permenant basis. We have also been linked with Michael Raynes, Alan Bennett and the Daggers centre half that went to Col Ewe.

We have also looked at various different defensive trialists as well so the work has been going on behind the scenes. Plus we actually added 3 new faces to the defence for the first month of the season.

A left back is a bare minimum I'd expect to see by 5pm tomorrow.

5pm is great. That long, often fruitless wait until midnight (1am CET)
was awful. At least we should be told our signings fate by the end of the afternoon or early evening, at the latest.

That's what I am saying though, we are either linked or we just miss out at the last minute (in the cases you mentioned to Orient & Hamilton) - we all know, or at least think we know why, but it is getting more & more frustrating, especially as this problem has been ongoing for almost half of Tilson's reign!!!

In terms of the triallists, probably other than Jamie Clapham last year or the Latvian guy from Watford who got injured would the majority on here have been happy/content/confident etc etc etc? I know we've only got a limited profile and there's the whole "which agents RM will/won't deal with" issue but it seems as if we always end up with journeyman triallists who the agent is desparate for somebody to take a punt on...
