The change of tactics to suit the blustery conditions didn't work today. Playing the long ball into the corners and missing out the midfield was so wrong. We have gone on the unbeaten run mainly because of the midfield running with the ball, and also Staker bombing down the left with the ball, and keeping it on the ground. Phil Brown deservedly got Manager of the month, but I hope he holds his hands up to this one. The players all seemed out of sorts. If it aint broke, scenario.

The most disappointing thing was the minority of fans who turned on the team towards the end - do you really expect us to win EVERY game? Today's performance wasn't the best, their lad finished well, and they coped with the conditions better than we did. I'm not going to criticise them over 1 game, but in the winter months any team who wants to do well in this division needs to grind out results and sometimes 'win ugly'. Today was an off day and maybe all we needed was a bit of luck.

We just did not turn up today! Oh well we move on and battle on another day!

Great point blank save from Bentley during the game, though he did let his head drop after their goal which showed in his kicking but he rallied well

Hopefully Manager of the month curse out of the way. Let's hope for a better performance on Friday. Just did not happen for us plus Turkey are battling to keep their heads afloat.

They can struggle all they like to keep their heads afloat. On Xmas eve, they will get their heads cut off, their arse stuffed and thrown in the oven.

We were very poor and got what we deserved, but we cant win every game and maybe some fans have expect too much,i think the vast majority of us would have taken still being in the FA cup and where we are in the league at the start of the season,Brown and co are doing a very good job.I heard that a Southend fan was very abusive to one of our players at the end of the game, totally uncalled for and not going to help.Hopefully we can get on another good run over the xmas period.

As others have said the blustery conditions were not good for football - what is it about footballers and adverse weather don`t they think about slinging balls up in the air in these conditions - any way thought we played ok but with obviously no end product - Torquay aren`t much cop but seemed to want it more than us.

Bentley - 6 - couple of great saves - but kicking was a bit erratic
White - 6 - got turned for the goal
Keirnan - 6 - average
Prosser - 6 - curse of player of the month thingy - can`t do long balls
Coker - 6 - reasonable job
Laird - 7 - not sure why he went off
Hurst - 7.5 - my MOM was at the centre of all our good things
Timlin - 6 - average
Clifford - 6 - some good crunching tackles
Straker - 6 - showed some flashes of good things but not enough
Corr - 6 - tried hard - not much support

Subs:-
Freddy - 6 - ran about a bit - the others don`t seem to know how to pass to him
Payne - 7 - lively little cameo - like to see him start sometime.

Catering - 5 - £2 for a Bovril !!!!

Stewards - 7 - using us as an experiment - but a sociable lot

Hole in the Wall - 9 - great burger (and I mean great in size as well) - Dartmoor Jail Ale - top notch

Small minority of our fans - 0 - for turning on the team after the goal went in

I didn't see the abuse at the end as was off straight on final whistle but if anyone's paid their money its up to them what they do as far as I'm concerned, for me its a case of just getting away from the ground asap. There was only 171 of us there yesterday. I certainly wasn't going to clap them off as was a pretty lame effort (on par for Newport away for me). I don't always like this lets clap them off , "hard luck lads" when i don't think they have worked their socks off enough. Torquay wanted it and we wanted to be tucked safely under the covers with a nice mug of cocoa away from the nasty little wind blowing.

So we have lost! But not to a rival team and I do not dislike Torquay; I hope they now take points off our rivals for promotion. No injuries, no bookings. A wake up for Friday and a BIG 3points against Rochdale.
Why abuse the players? Crazy! We have an honest squad, sometimes short of a leader and sometimes a team which seems to be waiting for something to happen rather than making It happen BUT a good bunch of lads trying hard.

Never went to Torquay, but I think we had it coming, we have been 'getting away with it' just lately so perhaps the loss will do us good.
