Tories buying "Likes"

With the news that The Tories are buying Faceache "Likes" to the tune of 100K per month with rumours abound that they are using "Click Farms" to enhance this. People should of course be able to "Like what they want but is touting for votes this way a good thing for politics in general or is this just the future of political motivation?

Thoughts?

It's wrong but also seems like a waste of money. I'd take half that cash per mOnth and spend my day clicking 'like' to whatever they wanted!

I clicked like. You owe me 50p.

How does it help them, do people really look at their post and think wow 1000 people like that, Im voting Tory! ?

Would it really influence how a person would vote?

The Tory party could have a trillion likes, I'd still rather nail my nads to the floorboards than vote Tory.

I would prefer to see election campaigns run with an equal "campaign cap" so each party could only spend the same amount of money campaigning then some skilful management of how they spend it might come into play.

I agree with that 100% Steve. It is not a fair platform atm.

According to "likes" the most popular "political" party in the UK for Facebook is Britain First which posts a series of edgy semi racist and phobia based items; it is run by far right activists and I recommend people to research any political stuff before endorsing it with a "like".
I may be wrong but there could be passed on details/advertising cookies involved too.

Sadly, yes people do and yes people will. It's third party endorsement, albeit staged. It's galling and insulting but there's no point beating the Tories up about it as they're all using every trick in the book. The day the general public stop following political parties like football teams, stop reacting to provocative (yet ultimately insubstantial) headlines, and stop being led by the nose, we might see an end to it. We won't. We have the political landscape we've enabled.

What's next? Reality TV politics. Russell Brand is just the beginning.

Hallelujah, a person that speaks sense without the normal political don't actually answer the question asked just add some spin answer pre-written. He has 3.5 million followers on faceache, I doubt he payed to get any.

I was watching that new series "inside the Commons" on the televisual machine the other night...One part was about Prime Ministers questions times and how it is "staged.. All questions are written down beforehand so all members know what they are asking and the PM/opposite benches have their pre-searched answers ready. The thing that really made me feel sick is the public,as do the Sun and the Daily Fail readers believe most of this bollocks.

Members of both parties are allowed to stand up and make statements such as ..Does the prime minister not agree that the coalition is working so hard to get Britain back on its feet etc etc..These are all apparently typed up beforehand and handed to ministers of whatever party to raise at PM's time and praise themselves... Cameron said in reply to the interviewer.. that is just politics.

What a crock of horse****

This would probably be the same with the "Live" TV Debates. Would be far more enlightening and entertaining if they all tipped up at a pub somewhere at very short notice and just got on with it.

Agreed, how is it a debate when you already know the answers you are told to give.

And yet just as clever at leading the public by the nose. I do like what he's doing as the whole media-run set-up needs a shake-up. I think he's also probably doing it for the right reasons but, for me, he's just a populist mouth, a "designer" voice tapping into a specific market - essentially Nigel Farage but with a different cause. Don't believe for a moment that his 'rants' are anything but pre-written. You can literally see him slipping in and out of his pre-canned content every time he speaks - I'll give him that, it's something he's very, very good at.

The point about reality TV was proved (in my opinion) the moment we started 'agreeing with Nick' in the TV debates. **** me, the general public fell in love with him just for referring to an audience member by their name!!!

It also won't lead to less spin and more questions answered. It'll lead to more spin and less honesty with our career politicians being even more media friendly and even less real.

When you saw the debates last time and saw how primed and programmed they are, ie like being told they couldnt point a finger so had to gesticulate with their thumbnail, making a point of remembering "Margaret from the high street I spoke to", it really just looked incredibly forced and undermined any sort of integrity for me.

I see a problem with that as in Farage would have got in the pub 2 hours before everyone else and would be three sheets to the wind on the podium.

Hmm, I think it's got legs actually.
