Not wanting to be a smart arse but the thread is for living sportsmen.
And for sportsmen too. F1's not a sport.

That's what you think...

Who voted for Eric Bristow - jeezus !

Clearly Roy McDonough and Kevin Maher must rate highly in anyones list.

Steve Redgrave
Bjorn Borg
Charlie Brown (for persistence)
The 400m specialist whose name escapes me
Carl Lewis
Mark Spitz
Torville and Dean

Amazed that no one has mentioned Michael Jordan... a sporting behemoth.

OK, here's my top 10 - based not simply on sporting achievements (which will usually speak for themselves), but for the impact that the person in question has had on his or her sport amongst the wider global audience (which means that cycling fans won't like my choice)...

1. Mohammed Ali (Boxing)
2. Pele (Football)
3. Michael Jordan (Basketball)
4. Shane Warne (Cricket)
5. Jack Nicklaus (Golf)
6. Michael Johnson (Athletics)
7. Lance Armstrong (Cycling)
8. John McEnroe (Tennis)
9. Michael Schumacher (F1 Racing)
10. Sir Steve Redgrave (Rowing)

No Jordan because Basketball hardly raises an eyebrow in the sporting conciousness of this country. Similarly, Shane Warne would not get a place in the top 20,000 in the US.

Your list contains 7 of my original top 10 MtS.

I am sure that Warnie would be up there for extra curricular activities.

Sorry, I am on 28kbs dial up (Company doesn't allow ISDN dial up - God alone only understands why) so I couldn't be bothered to scroll back.

Here I am 9.30 in my last night in HK stuck doing bloody conference calls and e-mails back to the team in London, waiting patiently for a 2am conference call to the US which has just been put back to 4am. *ARSE* ! At least I can get a few hours kip in shortly.

A bottle of chiraz is starting to go down rather well whilst I'm waiting for the Nasi Goreng to turn up.

At HK$ 370 a bottle from room service that must be at least a 10x mark up. My boss was so delighted when I broke the news to him 15 minutes back.

The Landmark Oriental has only been opened 6 months. It ranks in the top 3 of all the hotels I've been lucky enough to stay in. The rooms are absolutely fantastic with the only real downers being the location (though Lan Kwai Fong is a 2 minute walk), the view (sh!t) and the over-sincere service (four or five "Hello, how are you Sirs" between the entrance and the lift is wholly unnecessary and I've taken to ignoring them now).

I don't think anyone cares, Tone.

ps just had 3 hours boozing at the local courtesy of the company and they expect us to work for the last two hours??

Don't hold your breath about the Nazi Goering turning up as he committed suicide by biting on a cyanide capsule following the Nuremberg trials.

There must surely be question marks over their eligibility.

The criteria excluded anyone who has played - past or present -for Southend United.

Although having said that Maher's efforts over the last month or so clearly would not constitute "playing".
