Top Podcasts

Thought I'd ressurect this thread from the archives. In addition to the ones listed originally I now download the new Danny Baker Saturday show and, thanks to the recommendations on this thread, am a big fan of both Answer Me This and Collings and Herrin.

I've also discovered The Perfect 10 with Phil Jupitus and Phil Wilding.

Another football one I get is the Australian Four Four Two podcast (with guest pundit Spencer Prior for one episode so far).

Any new discoveries? My new job has a 45 minute drive each way which I found perfect for podcast listening and I also have a VERY long flight coming up.

Absolute genius, working through the back catalogue now. Really funny!

Thanks for the recommendation Naps.

Heres two for you mate as your in Australia,

Triple J - Dr Karl - really good science podcast
Triple m - Roy and HG - Funny sports chatshow, its a real **** take

I also love Figting talk, from the bbc.

As mentioned by others:

Fighting Talk
Guardian Football Weekly
The Danny Baker Show
Sportsweek
Mayo and Kermode's film reviews
The Daily Mayo
Dr Karl, the Naked Scientist
The Chequered Flag

Not to keen on the football league or the Time on-line football show since Danny Kelly stopped doing it.

I don't mind the Times one now they've got Phil Jupitus in. I know he's a Hamster but he's pretty good on it.

I'm going to start downloading the Danny Baker show, only listened to a bit on Saturday morning but it was as good as ever.

ESPN columnist Bill Simmons also does a really good one for anyone who is interested in US sports. He talks a lot about TV and film too.

Don't think it's quite so punchy now it's over 2 hours, but it's still a good listen.

Just getting into the Paul Foot podcast. A little like Russell Brand but a bit more gentle.

The latest Perfect 10 with Phil & Phil is pant wettingly hilarious. I nearly crashed the car listening to it on the way home tonight.

.

Agreed. Maybe it's still early days, but I think having the guests on distracts from it. I also think it was more suited to an evening slot than a morning slot which may impact on the quality of callers.

Worth resurrecting this thread for any new podcasts that people have discovered. For me, just one in addition to others already mentioned on here -

As It Occurs To Me

With the likes of Fighting Talk, Danny Baker Show, The Game and Football Weekly likely to be off-air during the summer (save for the odd World Cup special) I need some new ones to fill the gaps.

All at Sea (Southend podcast)
Football Weekly (Guardian - funny and informative. Sid Lowe from Spain is a highlight)
Kermode and Mayo (Unmissable)
Coffee Break French (The best language trainer I've ever come across)
Desert Island Discs (just brilliant)
WorshipCentral
Building a Library (Radio 3 - recommends the best recording of a different piece every week)
Jazz Library (Radio 3)
Godpod
Friday Night Comedy (Love the Now Show, less bothered about the News Quiz)
Stephen Fry (nothing for ages)

Aren't podcasts great? They make all the difference when you're commuting/doing DIY.

A Kermodian rant is a thing of beauty

Havent heard Jazz Library for a while now, will have to reinvestigate. Thinking Allowed is also good.

Did you hear his Sex in the City 2 rant that wasn't going to be a rant but ended up as one? He started in a 'more in sorrow than in anger' vein but then really got going. Classic. And deserved.

Thought I'd update this by saying Adam and Joe are back on Six Music this weekend, so looking forward to that podcast returning.
