Top 100 Sporting Moments

17. Michael Johnson annilhating the 200m world record (19.32 from 19.72, a seventeen year old record) in winning the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics
A superb call, Jacozinho. Still one of my favourite moments ever in sport. I've no idea what number we're up to, so I'm going to bag number 40.

40) Jeremy Guscott scores a drop goal for Lions glory in South Africa, 28 June 1997.

41) The last ball on the third day of the Egbaston Test to dismiss Michael Clarke, 6 Aug 2005. Still my favourite moment from that Ashes-winning summer.

42) Argentina 0 - 5 Colombia, 5 Sept 1993. The most gob-smacking international football match I've ever seen, narrowly edging out England's 5-1 win in Munich. Colombia travelled to the Monumental for a World Cup qualifier, one that Argentina needed to win to avoid a play-off (IIRC), and proceeded to play Argentina off the park in their own back yard. Utterly staggering - Valderrama played like the ball was attached to his feet on a piece of string.

43) Michael Owen puts England 2-1 up over Argentina, 30 June 1998. Never mind the result, will I see a better England goal in the knock-out stage of a World Cup? I somehow doubt it. Pure undiluted joy.

That'll do for now.

:)

Was watching that in The Spread with Naps after our 2-1 defeat at home to Port Vale at the start of the 05/06 season. Absolutely blinding and helped me forget the football in no time. :)

Jesse Owens putting a big two fingers up to Hitler (metaphorically speaking) by winning 4 Gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
