Top 10 films of the decade.

That's the one........perhaps it's an idea to divide the films into themes. Under animation there are the Park fims .....Wallace and Gromitt, Chicken Run etc and what about the film with all those penguins? (La marche de l'Empereur.........my wife's just reminded me). Talking about animation I completely forgot the recent Waltz with Bashir, which was excellent and may have crept into my to ten. Just realised that I haven't included a Mike Leigh film, the one with Timothy spall as a taxi driver was pretty good, can't remember the title.

Bashir is on my wait list from DVD EasyDVD.

All or Nothing - not seen it.

Thought long and hard

10 - Slumdog Millionaire
9 - Into The Wild
8 - Shaun Of The Dead
7 - Old Boy
6 - Pirates Of The Caribibean - Curse of the Black Pearl
5 - City of God
4 - Stars Wars Episdoe III - Revenge of the Sith
3 - Batman Begins
2 - Donnie Darko
1 - Downfall (Der Untergang)

That's the film..........saw it at our local cinema, which prides itself in screening at least a couple of films in VO each week. Pity I don't have the time and I suppose the inclination to go more often.

All or Nothing is one of Mike Leigh's best.France has always been better served for VO films than Barcelona.Even Beziers humble Le Palace had Looking for Eric back in June(it's just arrived here in Barna this weekend).:madman:

That's disappointing and surprising to hear. I found Timothy Spall's performance in All or Nothing was great, compared with his acting in a terrible telefilm about gun crime, that I saw whilst I was in England during the summer......unusual for him. Perhaps, like the rest of us, he needs the money.

Pan's Labyrinth (Easily the best film of the decade for me)
There Will Be Blood (Weird but amazing)
The Lives of Others (Incredibly moving - a real eye opener about life in Stasi controlled East Germany)
Spiderman (The best superhero film ever IMO - thrilling but has has real emotional depth too)
Tell No One (This film out-Bournes Bourne. It has a rare depth of feeling for a thriller - even better than the book in my view)
Up! (The best family film I've seen in 10 years - much better paced than Wall-E.)
Solaris (Just beautiful.)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Alfonso Cuarón brings his genius to the HP franchise and a great score from John Williams)
Shaun of the Dead (Genius!)
Little Miss Sunshine (One of the funniest movies I've ever seen)

I did watch and it was very impressive and moving but the 10 in my list have stuck with me over the (probably) thousands I've seen this decade more than any other.

Almost impossible..........well, at the least, a very difficult choice. In no order

Lost in Translation (close call with the Virgin Suicides)
No Country for Old Men
Mystic River
This is England
Little Miss Sunshine
Mulholland Drive
In the mood for Love
Eastern Promises
Broken Flowers
Elephant

After some thought, Irma Palm was an original film and superbly acted by Marianne Faithfall.........but on reflection is probably not one of the top of the decade. Therefore I have replaced it with the sumptuous 'In the Mood for Love.'

Nemo is probably the poorest Pixar film I've seen. Although that says more about Pixar films than it does about Nemo, to be fair.

WALL-E is up there with Shawshank, for me.

I agree with you that it's an excellent film though not one that comes to mind for the top 10 of the decade.

American Splendor just got bumped. God bless Charlie Kaufman.
