Todays win......

benny the blue

Youth Team
We go 1 up through a pen and they have their captain sent off. Should maybe score a couple more goals and push on for a comfortable win?

NOT SOUTHEND

Made very hard work of what should have been an easyish 3 points. Sat back and played the ball rather worryingly around at the back. Only a super strike out of nothing from Gutts rescued the game.

Positives- Flavs looked steady throughout.
Didnt really let Fletcher their lump of a striker win any headers
Maher is returning to form
Wayne Gray was 100% better for effoert and attitude to previous games, worked hard and his pace caused the defence problems.
Bentley gave us some spark and energy when he came on

Negatives- Sat back far too often passing the ball around in slow motion
Cole is seriously unfit and should be dropped for monday. Blowing out of his arse after 30 mins
Lacked energy and imagination to break down 10 men
Lawson is not good enough, he is lazy, lighweight and has no pace

All in all a good (lucky) win again. Up to second- roll on some new squad players in January!

was a seriously unconvincing win but 3 pts none the less - Bourmemouth still created plenty of chance even with 10 men

but we also created chances, just didn't take them.

i was most disappointed with the fans around me, bunch of moaners.

Where were you sitting, gilbo?

Just me who thought we played some neat passing football then?

Guttridge ran the show IMO, Eastwood and Gray looked dangerous too. Our defence was a bit sh!t though.

I agree Gilbo. I was sitting in the West today. I've not sat there for years but South Upper and alot of the East was full when I bought my tickets yesterday. WHAT A BUNCH OF MOANERS.

One nil up vs 10 men, we're trying to keep the ball abit and so many "fans" just get on Maher's, Jupp's (who I thought had a cracker today), Cole's back. Don't even give them half a second on the ball before they get berated for not finding a pin-point through ball to the front men. Where are they going to find their confidence and self-belief from if they continuously get that sort of abuse? The husband and wife "Sort it owt Sarfeend" dream team in T Block should stay at home with the Daily Mail next home game and moan about immigrants or welfare state fraudsters or something.

Cole is not lazy. This time last year he was playing non-League football. Like Eastwood last year, he's going to take abit of time to adjust to a faster game and 3 games in 5 days is going to take its toll.

OK, we're not playing the best football at the moment. But we're 2nd in League 1 for $%*&'s sake. Why not get behind the team, even when there's no champagne football to applaud, and give them some encouragement instead of scaring them all out of going anywhere near the ball.

Bit harsh on Mitchell. He's not fit enough yet, even he's said that. Personally, knowing JCR wasn't available today, I'd have started him on Wednesday with Cole coming in today because he's not fit enough to be starting all these games in quick succession.

The thing as well is that we just don't give him the ball enough. When he did get service today he did alright and in particular beat 2 men in the 2nd half to set up a chance that Gutts should have put away. I said when he signed people should be patient, and I still stand by that.

Away from Cole though. Gray was like a different player to Boxing Day, which makes him even more frustrating. Flavs didn't put a foot wrong and made some decent saves and Maher did better than recently again.

Got to give Bournemouth an awful lot of credit though. They were always a decent footballing side when we met them in League 2 and they've stayed that way. Their movement off the ball is outstanding and Hayter was a real danger. We could do far worse than try and battle Barnsley for him in January.

we won which is the main thing but what i couldnt understand is how deep the midfield sat. Freddy and Wayne were at times isolated because we werent pushing out to support them. This in turns pushes the back line further towards flavs.

i think cole is too much of a luxury. never goes hunting for the ball, and doesent get enough (any) tacles in. But one thing for sure he does have talent. just a pity his all round game when we havent got the ball isnt better.

Anyone know why eastwood was subbed ?

Tilly was frustrated that Freddy was giving the ball away too much and one moment when a pass went astray snapped him into action. When it happened he swung round to the bench and ordered Lawson to come on.

Mitchell incidentally was subbed because he told the bench he couldn't continue.

he took a knock

Bournemouth were a very very good side, even down to 10 men they still played better than us and created more space.................BUT we played sh!t and won, better than playing Brazilian football and losing

Eastwood was subbed because he was trying too hard at times and was selfish with that chance when he shot across goal from an impossible angle when Gray was unmarked in the middle of the area. He'd been running a lot too so he was probably tired.

I agree it wasn't a great performance today but you have to remember we've just played 3 games in 6 days, whilst Bournemouth hadn't played since the 23rd. We won, we won at home for the first time since October 9th and we've definitely turned things around after our bad spell so there's plenty to be pleaed about. They played some nice football, I was impressed with some of their midfielders, and created enough chances to win but didn't take them. We had some good chances of our own though and I think it was a much improved performance today. We sat back a bit in the 2nd half and Bournemouth deserved their equaliser, but we kept our heads up and what a goal from Guttridge to win it. I'd been shouting at him to shoot all afternoon.

I thought Gray was MoTM today, worked his socks off and whenever he got the ball looked dangerous. Would have scored more if Freddy hadn't been so selfish. I thought Jupp and Gower played well too, Maher was improved after some poor performances lately and the referee was excellent for once. Cole and Prior were the only players who disappointed me. Cole was too lazy and never got into the game, and Prior looked shaky again. Bring back Edwards.

In all fairness Eastwood couldn't pass to Wayne simply because Gray didnot hold back, but put himself between two defenders, and therefore made the pass impossible.

If Eastwood had scored from the acute angle we would be applauding a brilliant effort, similar to Guttridge goal, one of the best you will see all season, and yet if he had missed ,many moaners would be complaining why he didnot pass.

Fine and fickle is the line when games are close
