Today's Court Hearing

These bits worry me in particular...

Maybe it will all pan out ok, but this is why people dont always take "Rons word" as gospel, as it appears to be anything but a done deal that we can settle this debt...

So what is Ron meant to say, exactly?

"Well, it's like this people... we're stuffed. You may as well support Orient, West Ham and Colchester now."

I think we all need to remember that it is very much in Ron's interests for this deal to go through and for the club to continue. He probably stands to lose a lot more than any of us if it doesn't.

Also, in mitigation as to why the debt hasn't been paid, the lawyers are hardly going to say

"Well m'lud, the club actually could have paid off the Revenue a couple of seasons ago but there's this website called Shrimperzone with quite a few venomous knobs on it who are giving the club and in particular Mr Martin and Mr Tilson a hard time over not buying any players so rather than actually service this debt they decided to invest in Peter Clarke, Billy Paynter, Richie Foran and Matt Harrold."

It may get paid, it may not, but it's beyond our control unless we supporters can raise £700K by then in which case put your energies into that project rather than worrying about things you have no control or influence over.

He has a 'plan B' up his sleeve, he is not relying on the deal with Sainsburys. He did not feel the need to disclose this to the courts.

We're not the only ones in trouble with HMRC: -

From today's Scottish Metro...

Hearts claim shock at tax action

HEARTS' solvency has been called into question again after the club confirmed HM Revenue and Customs had begun court action.

A petition for a 'wind-up' action was lodged against the Edinburgh outfit at the Court of Session this week on behalf of HMRC, who are chasing unpaid debts.

Hearts issued a statement in which they insisted the outstanding bills would be paid on time.

Club director Sergjus Fedotovas said: 'The petition that has been raised came as a surprise as the club has a payment schedule in place with HMRC and this will be met in full to the agreed timescales.

'The funds are available and sufficient to meet the obligations. We have made excellent progress recently as a club in cutting our costs and reducing our debt.'

Last season, Hearts twice failed to pay their squad on time, citing 'technical' glitches for the delays.

Sounds familiar I'd say, although they've obviously got more of a wage bill than us but the delay in paying wages as well as (not mentioned above) the costs of improving stadium facilities are certainly a factor!
