Shrimpers all at sea

'Paul Sturrock is quitely turning around the playing fortunes of Southend United, 17 points out of a possible 24 after a 1-1 draw at Torquay. A pity, then, that a club which has been served with yet another winding-up order by the taxman cannot manage its off-field affairs as well.'

Enough said really.

And I'm sure they know all the in and outs of our financial situation at the moment!

with all the rumours flying around I've heard theres anything upto 3 seperate winding up orders going on. Could of course only be rumours but we've had so many winding up orders now to tend to believe its the norm for another one to pop up.

IMO its wrong that we as fans are not fased by this anymore and kind of take it in our stride. how can that be acceptable?

Because like most games our fans are happy to sit on the hands and any spite is directed at the referee linesman and blair sturrock/gilbert

How Teffron gets away with it i'll never know or understand

I am not sure what it is the fans really want. A messiah that will come in and prop up a business that leaks money quicker than Stockport leak goals? Its somewhat curious to me. So some think that a new face at the helm will suddenly change the clubs fortunes? RM may have had to rob Peter to pay Paul but to do so he must be seeing a bigger picture where the benefits outweigh the bad. Does anyone really believe this is not having a personal and psychological toll on RM? I for one hope he continues to believe in the big picture long enough for it to see fruition and does not a) Throw in the towel and walk or b) Have a fatal heart attack in the process. A new ground, with three or four sides is the immediate way forward. Lets all get behind this and show solidarity and support. Whether you think we are going about it in the right way or not, it needs all of us to row in the same direction to have any hope of success. Rich oligarchs and Arab oil magnates are conspicuous by their absence and besides, RM has gone through hell and sweat blood over this and if anyone is going to reap a reward then I hope it is him.

I feel physically sick after reading that.

It's certainly a lot easier to blame our plight solely on one person than it is to acknowledge how depressingly dire the Club's underlying situation is.

I don't blame just one person. I blame RM, GK and any other brown noser who has helped them to conspire to put the club in the position it finds itself in today. I'm sure RM has a number of people who turn a blind eye or actively assist the ongoing incompetence demonstrated on a daily basis.

Does that make my position clear ? LOL

I think some fans want -

1) Ron Martin out
2) Steve Tilson and Paul Brush back
3) Johnny Herd to be captain
4) Scott Spencer to be recalled and be the first name on the team sheet
5) Matt Paterson recalled and form a new strike partnership with Scott Spencer
6) a squad of 24 players capable of competing in the Championship
7) all bills and wages paid on time
8) new ownshership by Arabs or Russian Oligarchs who are prepared to pump endless amounts of money into the club and never expect any return
9) Thousands of fans to boycott all home matches and march up and down the high street with placards or to storm RH with pitchforks every matchday until Ron steps down
10) Freddy Eastwood, Neil Harris, Matt Lockwood and Stan Collymore to sign

Ultimately, the only one of those ever likely to even POSSIBLY happen is number 6. Eventually. And perhaps not in my lifetime.

Define brown noser.

So are we here because of people conspiring or because of incompetence? Surely those two are incompatible?

Define brown noser.

People in the employment of RM or his companies and possibly business associates who have contributed to the demise of the club. I don't think for one second RM is capable of doing all this alone, surely there are other fingers in the pie ? What about the legal fees that have been paid out over the last 2 years for a start, why would anyone in their right mind spend money we haven't allegedly got on a number of court cases that could have been avoided ? The whole thing stinks and RM must have people aiding him in some capacity.

The Court cases could only have been avoided if we paid up. We didn't have any money to pay up.

EDIT - the thing is you could be entirely right. There could be a massive conspiracy between RM, GK and a shadowy group of business associates to bring the Club to its knees. You could certainly make the case and there is no way that I, or anyone else, could disprove it.

The reason why I don't think it's the case is because there are other, more straight-forward, explanations why we're where we are. Until there's some firm evidence one way or the other I'll stick with my feeling that there really isn't more here than meets the eye.
