I thought that's where the players spend all their spare time. You know leaning over the likes of ironshrimpers table and slurring how much they hate PB. I mean that's what we are told, so it must be true.

SBH must have ben wearing his rose tinted glasses, if he thinks one of our players likes PB and could be a credit to our club.

I quite like your posts as you have information on the club that many of us dont have , and I like your insight on match stuff. But if I may be so bold, don't lower yourself with posts like these, they do you no credit and bring you down to the same level as the posts you refer to.

Interestingly, had the pleasure of sharing a workout this afternoon with Ted Smith at my local gym. I say interestingly for a number of reasons, not least that it took me more than a while to work out that it was actually him. From my vantage point in the South Upper, I've always had the impression of him as being relatively 'lightweight' and 'short'! But he actually isn't.

I'm 6'2" and he more than stands eye to eye to me - in fact I think he was actually slightly taller. And while I don't normally take any interest in what someone else is 'benching', I can say he's certainly no mug there either making my initial impressions even more bizarre.

Anyway, very nice guy. Model pro. Wants to do well and desperately wants to make the jersey his own. Is a definite fan of Brown's and tells me the players want to play for him. Despite what we sometimes see or read, Ted made a specific point of recognising that Brown often takes the pressure off of the players and puts it on himself. They're all confident about the rest of the season, particularly with the likes of Ranger due back soon too.

So not sharing anything he wouldn't want me to share here but, off the field, he's a credit to our club. I hope we get the best of him on the field in the future.

Top lad and a pleasure to talk to him.

<Irony mode on>

But SBH, how can this be?

There are literally hundreds of posters on here who have never met Brown or the players, have never been involved with running a football club, I mean, there are some who haven't even seen the games, yet they are absolutely 100 trillion percent certain that the players hate him and want him gone.

How can they all be so wrong?

<Irony mode off, in case anyone was wondering, like>

In all seriousness though, I wouldn't expect a player to say anything different to a stranger they had just met in a Gym and who referred to him as "Tiny Tim"...

excellent satire.

Ted in the gym minding his own business ,oldish gentleman suddenly appears

SBH....your Ted Smith
TS...yeah
SBH...your really tall
TS..hmmm cheers
SBH...you are really ripped
TS..who are you

SBH..are you having a shower,if so can I borrow your soap

Ted legs it out the gym:smile:

He is a lovely guy, and being a former pupil at King John, one with a real connection locally. I had my photo taken last season with him, to show my boss as his daughter was in the same cohort at KJ and knew him and his family well, and bearing in mind I am 5' 10", I certainly "looked up" to him. He's not slight either, he HAS bulked up, he just is a different physique to Dan.

King John ???
Well, that's it I'm afraid as I can't support anyone from up the hill. I suppose his six digits on each hand may help mind.

I'm really envious of the way you are so clear about irony mode being 'on' and then 'off'.
I just wish I was as organised as you.
Got to work today and after a great weekend I realised that I forgot to turn my swag 'off'.
Feel so stupid .....

Agreed and I'm very conscious of that. But there's a marked difference between saying "yeah, he's okay" when asked loosely about PB and giving one or two specific examples of feedback about what he brings to the team. And as per the original post, it was part of a wider conversation and not just a yes/no answer.

You can also generally tell when someone is being guarded or not. It's like when Mrs Blue tries humour (see above)... you know what she's trying to say but something about it just tells you it's not quite right...

For what it's worth, I spoke to Neil Harris at Southend Airport a while after he left for Millwall, and the first thing he said was that the players all really like and respect PB. No reason to lie then.

Even the girls who take the team for Yoga in the afternoon (PB's idea) tell me how professional the team are and how well they respect their manager. The girls will admit they don't know the first thing about football yet they are more clued up than some of our 'experts' on here.

When the team have been given extra rest or because of a busy schedule, some of the players have contacted the Yoga centre and come and joined a class of an evening. I know from personal experience none of Ronnie Whelan's players would be doing that.

Certainly more clued up than you.

Even Phil admits we sat back.

Try and get more on message.

Quite a different group of players now to when Harris left though?

I'm surprised PB said that.

We tried to see the game out, but who doesn't, going into injury time.

We certainly didn't sit back through choice, from what I saw. They pushed for an equalizer and forced us to defend a bit more.

Those of us sitting near SBH on Saturday know that he does like a good chat with a goal keeper....

I was very concerned for his life after Wordsworth's career-threatening, three-footed tackle on his back after the penalty. Being distraught when it turned out that he was exaggerating the incident, I felt it was important to discuss his injuries directly. Turns out he's going to be okay!

Having a caring nature , especially in the cynical age we live in , is indeed a wonderful trait to have.
You are a role model for many on here and you should be proud of that.
There will always be haters , but ignore them.
Never change SBH.
