Tilsons contacts. Does he have any?

I am the first to praise tilly when the praise is necessary , but most managers who had 1.5 million in there pocket would be bringing in a couple of class players. I am really dissapointed that freddy has gone and the saving grace was the fact that the money could be used to strengthen the squad. I can only conclude that the reason other lower league clubs sign good players is that they have good contacts within the game. Has tilly actually got any contacts? We have the money to go out and buy top class players but we sign players like paynter and foran for £450k . Well thanks for those two whoever recomended them. I mean tilly must be a bit niave to reject an offer for matt harold. The bloke is conference quality and we turn down offers. Am i the only one starting to dispair with tilly?

Please spend atleast half the eastwood money and scout the likes of eastern europe/africa etc. Other clubs do it . Real sociadad have just signed someone from crew alex. I mean that is the way to do it, cast the net far and wide and find the next kinkladze/pahars or kanu.

Firsly Tilly doesn't have 1.5million in his back pocket, what he gets to spend of the Eastwood money is down to RM. However we know there is cash available prior to the Eastwood sale as the bid for O'Donovan testifies.

Iam sure that between Tilly & Brush they have plenty of contacts within the game. All managers are members of the LMA who meet on a regular basis. Scouting Eastern Europe - Zoltan Liptak ring any bells?

No not really it's about knowing the market. Anyway where do you think we signed players like Dudfield, Nicolau, Goater, Gilbert, Francis, Hammell, Foran, McCormack, JCR, etc etc without having contacts. I won't enter into a debate whether they are/were good enough or not, but all new signings to the club at the time. And doubtless from non existent contacts.

Au contaire I think the club did need the money from Freddy it may have escaped your notice but the club is still heavily in debt.

I think 7/800k is an awful lot of money on new players if it's extending the club beyond it's means. I prefer the Mr Micawber school of fiscal propriety myself.

I think as I've mentioned before , its that players just dont want to come here. there's not the facilities some have enjoyed at other clubs , they don't like the environment or surrounding areas , and their agents get more money from London clubs.

How do i know this Paul Merson's brother . He works with my Dad. He just asked him . And that was some of the reasons.

This argument goes on and on. Why would a "class" player want to join Southend at the moment?
You could have 4 billion quid in your back pocket but it doesnt mean Ronaldihno would join.

I know through a friend of a friend (really!) that Tilly is incredibly knowledgable about lower league football (Football Lg and Conferences) and could give you the run-down on almost any player however obscure.

As Osymandus said, its more to do with players not fancying it - which is where Tilly, Brush and RM have to do the work of selling the club.

i thought in the end selling fred would be a good idea in order to get a least three good players in. since selling him we havn't got anyone in to replace him. its such a worrying thought that we just don't have a goal scorer. its great seeing bradders scoring at hat-trick but seriously if tilly thinks the answer is matty harrold then he hasn't got a clue. when will he wake up and see how ****e this bloke is. mr 'i jump in the air and do **** all and stroll aroudn the pitch for 90 mins' Harrold

Spot on. People bang on about how much cash we have spend but it's sadly academic because if a suitable target comes along, chances are he will be in demand and chased by much bigger clubs than us.

The 400k bid for Roy O'Donovan was pleasing in the sense that it proved we are willing to spend if necessary, but ultimately it highlighted the no-win situation we currently face. We never stood a chance against Sunderland or Fulham.

sorry mate but harrold is totallt useless. he's by far one of the most frustraiting players to watch. he just jumps up in the air aimlessly. havn't got time for him at all. i much prefer someone like macdonald who looks like he wants to play and puts his all when he gets his chance. effort goes a long way i think.

Really how do you explain that we have signed the best part of 20 players since Tilly has been in charge, and only one of those (Tommy Black) from a club that Taylor manages. I accept that Paynter came from Hull on a likely Taylor recommendation, but Tilly had also seen him at the Football League rep game that he assisted Taylor at.
