Tilson

What a stupid post! I am pleased with our process under Tilson, we alway play football the right way and got a young team and is developing winning mentality like our form of 10 wins out of 13, if we can get a pacy winger and a good crosser for left side and a left back, maybe cover for centre back (6.4 ft tall please) and 1 midfielder (player who can cover the central midfield and also play wide too) we could go place.

I don't think that many managers could have taken this group of players and had them 8th at this stage of the season. Ok, we've been propped up by loanees, but Tilly signed the loanees. Which is a miracle considering his lack of contacts in the game.

All these players on loan of course

Given Tilly has been with us for nearly 5 1/2 years now, do you feel he may move on to pastures new at the end of the season?
Do you feel Tilly has done all he can with SUFC and perhaps needs a new challenge?
Do we look stale and in need of new direction?

I did think and openly stated at the start of the season, that I thought he would leave at Christmas or at least in January if things were going badly. I hope he doesnt leave, but, there is always that uncertanty within football.
Depends on the lure of 'bigger' clubs and how much Tilson is 'worth' to other chairmen.

I don't know whether anyone else has mentioned this but Tilson has, in my view, created two promotion challenging sides in one season. I don't have much doubt in my mind that the team he had created by mid-September, with HRK, Sawyer, Federici, JFC and Harding, would have gone on to get promotion or, at the very least made the play-offs........if it had stayed together. Equally, the squad we have at the moment could have achieved the same, if they had started the season together.
Now, that really is some achievement................more of the same next season please...............apart from that bit from November to January (Chelsea aside).

If not for 1 win in 13 games between November and Jans, we would be looking at fighting Peterborough and Millwall for the 2nd place and auto. promotion! I hope Tilson can learn his lesson to get players in earlier, so he have a team to work with, from day one in pre-season training!

1) He may decide to move on if the right offer came along - but for the reasons given about his job secuirty at Roots Hall I doubt it.
2) I don't think so. I think he's more than capable of building another promotion winning team and if we went back up to the Championship we'd be better equipped with the lessons learned last time
3) Stale? Blimey, if we're stale at the moment it will be good to see the form we'd be in when we're fresh. Of course we're not stale!

On the contrary, is it perhaps possible that Steve Tilson has taken Southend United as far as they can go? History would certainly make a good case for this.

Of course that's possible. However you could argue that would apply to whoever is manager. The fact is the pinnacle for this club has been getting promoted to the second tier of English football. That has happened twice in our 100 year plus history. Steve Tilson was involved both times as a player and then manager. He came pretty close to making it a hat-trick last year and is keeping our hopes alive going into April this season. He is doing as well as any other manager has ever achieved with the finances and resources available as Southend United manager.

If those resources and finances improve, which arguably it could with a new stadium and increased revenue as a result, then I for one would like to see Steve Tilson be given the chance to prove he is capable of taking us to the next level. His achievements so far have, in my opinion, earned that opportunity.

Maybe you would like to tell us the point to this discussion when we have just won 10 out of our last 13 games?
How can we look stale and be in the need need of new direction, when we are close to getting into the play offs on very limited resources? What other manager in the World could have done any better?

No,No and No,

Ldn Fasto I wish you would think about your posts before posting them as you upset a lot of people. I for one didnt sleep after reading this tripe.

You have already hounded Gower and Mark Prudhoe out the club how many more.

I will treat this post with the neg rep contenpt it deserves and I urge all other to follow with some red.

Tilson is the right man for the job and despite a terrible period this season has still challenged for the playoffs and Id never consider changing him.

Has he taken Southend as far as we can go? Possibly, we are a League one side and

There are lessons to be learnt and there needs to be less reliance on loans so when they leave we arent screwed, for me loans should supplement the side but we have made them the core. Also we need a more balanced and established squad. To play most of the season with out any wingers, or with the whole left side with players out of position really isn't acceptable.

Still if we can do as well as we have the last couple of months with these issues then Tilson must be doing something right.

I just feel that Tilson has probably done as much as he can with us with the limitations he has been given. I also feel that should someone from the Championship come sniffing for Tilson, he'd jump citing personal ambition.
Also, yes i do think we are stale at the moment. Sure, we have been on a decent run of late but in my view these none of these wins have been particularly convincing. In fact we have been poor in some of them. It's just that the other teams have been just as bad or worse. Hereford and Hartlepool being two examples.

Yes, he may seem to have it good at Southend but I think the vacant manager's post at Barnet may be too much of a temptation to resist.

Yes, I think we'd be deluded to think SUFC could ever achieve more than 8th place in League One. He should quit while he's ahead.

Absolutely, I'm sick of this mid-table mediocrity we've endured ever since Tilson took over. It wouldn't be so bad if we didn't draw so many games 0-0!!

ldnfatso you are entitled to your opinion but its complete bollox and not one shared by many on here. Surprised TTK hasn't been on here he is just about the only one who would agree with you.
