I believe it was Graham Shankville, a slight centre-forward from Chortley Wanderers, who had been linked with us once before in 1985. If I remember correctly, Shankville was on the verge of signing a two-and-a-half year contract with the Shrimpers when the deal fell through on account that he only had one leg. I guess he must have worked at his game over the past two decades ...
Yes I believe Graham was Hopping mad at not being able to sign

In season 2033/34 in my championship manager game one of my youth players came through by the name of Paul Stanley, real quality striker.
Didnt he used to be in Kiss??
Mike. I know, from the War & Peacelike history that you are currently engaged on, you have a bountiful knowledge of all things SUFC. But this is patently a misleading story about which you must have become confused during all those hours of Synchronised Mediterranean Toe Dipping.Shankville was on the verge of signing a two-and-a-half year contract with the Shrimpers when the deal fell through on account that he only had one leg.
PBOREHAM If you dont care what anybody says then surely its a bit pointless joining in on adiscussion forum:mad: but however what would be the point of keeping unhappy and therefore disruptive players and pboreham , you like so many seem to think that there is a magical place where football managers can go and pick up just as many identikit pro footballers of the shelf who are just able to play in the right position for the right money at the right age ,willing to move their famillies , etc etc etc . Why dont you let Tilly in on the whereabouts of this secret sweety shop that you seem to have identified . It would make things so much easier for us all.:thump:
Nick Ward (QPR -> Brighton)
Leon Knight (Swansea -> MK Dons)
Pawel Abbot (Huddersfield -> Swansea)
Micah Hyde (Burnley -> Peterborough)

3 of those 4 players have gone down a division, doesn't that tell you something about them ??

Yea, fair point - but doesnt actually prove that much does it? Look at Michael Kightly - did anyone think that when we released him he would one day be at Wolves and courted by Man U?
Just because players are stepping back, is not to say they arent good enough. Abbot could end up with 20 goals in the Championship next season, whilst Foran gets released from our League 1 strugglers.
I would have certainly taken at least any 3 of those 4. For all his attitude, who wouldnt have been excited with an Eastwood/Knight partnership for the run-in? (you would you rather an Eastwood/Bradbury/Harrold one?). Hyde would have been perfect cover for either Maher or Gutts and would have given us great competition there - remember, Hyde was a regular for Burnley this season and is now Posh's captain.
Nick Ward is a quality player and quite what QPR are doing releasing him to Brighton is very odd...

I'd have taken Ward based on what we saw earlier in the season and from what i've seen on tv. I wouldn't have gone near Abbott or Knight. Abbott seemed to have been afflicted by David Johnson syndrome and Knight, I feel, would have done more harm than good to our fighting cause.
Hyde's an interesting one. I'm pretty sure Peterborough are spending a fair whack trying to get players in right now. I'm not sure I would have liked what we'd have had to pay.
Then look at players we 'supposedly' missed out on like Hayes, Currie
Hannibal Hayes and Kid Currie? Alias Smith and Jones? Do we really need to be signing Outlaws? Who you going to suggest next? Billy the Kid, Jesse and Frank James? C'mon get real.
:p
Dont think its Tilly i think ron being a bit tight saving money where ever he can.
I don't know whether he was the player we went for on the last day, but I note that Hull had a transfer deadline day bid of £350k turned down for Roy O'Donovan.
Hull fail with record O’Donovan offer
