Oh well, God will just have to come back for the final and get us the winner.

Quote[/b] (shrimper4life @ May 18 2005,17:23)]Nicky Nicolau should play if Gower is not fit. He did quite well earlier in the season wen he came in for Gower... and he scored a few goals.:)
Jeez, not another one.

Nicky came in a played well twice. Kidderminster away and Rushden at home. Rushden were a woeful side and he was up against a very inexperienced full back. He'd be very uninfluenctal up against Northampton.

He is a average player, and if Southend United are looking to progress, his the type of player we don't need.
I do agree with you completely on Nicolau, BoyWonder. Thing is though, despite my own reservations about Nicky, I actually think he might be a better bet than Guttridge on Saturday if Gower doesn't make it, simply because NN is more likely to hold his position out wide.

My worry if Guttridge plays is that we might flood the middle of the park and if so, that potentially leaves us exposed on the flanks, where Northampton are dangerous - look what happened against Oxford when we did the same thing.

The last thing we need is Josh Low and Martin Smith having free runs at our full-backs.

But then again I guess it depends on how fit Nicolau is as he hasn't played much football in the last month. Throwing him straight back in the first XI might be dangerous.

Ultimately, we really need Gower to be available. If he isn't, that's a major blow to our chances of winning, in my opinion.
