After last night, thought we could round-up all those away matches where we scored 5 or more.

I'll start with my personal favourite, a 5-3 win at Burnley in 1982.

An amazing match, considering Burnley got promoted that season.

It was a Tuesday night game in April, after the original match had been postponed.

Went up by coach and we arrived back at RH around 3:00am, at the same time as the team coach.

Got a lift home from Garry Nelson, who was one of the scorers that night.:thumbsup:

That is not quite that!!
11th October 1980. Halifax Town 1 Southend United 5.
A memorable day out. Drinks near Halifax, a 5 goal bonanza and another step towards the title!

Missed that game as I was at a wedding.

We nipped out to the car at 5pm to hear James Alexander-Gordon read out .. (lower voice) Halifax Town 1 (higher voice) Southend United 5 !

Needless to say, the evening reception went very well!

Wasn't that about a week before they beat us 4-1 at the Hall (or something like that)?

Yep, pretty much.

They came to us for the last game of the season on a Friday night and clinched promotion with the South Bank being pretty well populated with Burnley fans.

Remember sharing a pint with a few of them in the Shrimper's Club after the game.

I was there too. I was 17 and had to go to school the next morning and didn't sleep all night due to the excitement. I believe that was Burn;ley's only defeat between Boxing Day and the end of the season - which they ended with a 1-4 victory at RH

Not forgetting our 5-2 win at Norwich in October 1928. Cricko was one of the ball boys that day so hopefully he can give us a bit more info on the game.

No,it was more like 4 weeks- there were 5 games for us in between, the 4th of which I saw at Exeter when a late equaliser just about ended our promotion hopes(no play-offs in those days.

... They stuck us up the back of their huge covered terrace along the side of the pitch, with the locals just through the fence.

Towards the end, I remember a fair number of them popping round and trying to mingle in with us.

Not the best segregation I ever witnessed!

I've actually got a few photos around somewhere of that match.

Steve Phillips scored for us, I think.

We made a weekend of it with a lot of the Southend United Supporters Club Football Club lads.

Good times!

I haven't checked but am 99% sure that it was Keith Mercer who scored.

Burnley game.....what a night that was, I think Derek Spence got a couple & got sent off as well, locals not happy that night, think about 20 something of us went up in a small coach?
