I know some of the people involved and it is a tragedy. The driver was at fault if you want to blame someone but this is a tragedy and I am hoping that we can use this thread to give SUPPORTIVE messages to all involved, especially the two on life support machines. Please keep posts respectful and supportive and when I next see someone involved I and I'm sure Forever a Shrimper will pass on your messages.

Yeah that'd be nice.

The girlfriend told me they are scanning the girl on a life suppports machines brain on tuesday to examine if there is still some activity.

I knew the driver, and one of my mates told me he jumped out the way of the car! I was recently 17 and can now drive, but Ive seriously put it on a waiting list from recent incidents.. Wish everyone a safe recovery

Please pass on my best wishes to everyone affected by this. I hope the 2 who are seriously injured pull through. By all accounts it seems they are in a very poor way.

I have two kids around that age, one just learning to drive. It makes my blood run cold to think of what their parents are going through. I pray that everyone injured in this accident makes a good recovery.

Yeah he's a good mate of my girlfriend, and best mate. Nice kid. Just one act of stupidity and that can happen.
Lets hope everyone pulls through.

Has certainly made me think about the way I will drive when I pass.

Very wise words O-S, think of it every time you get in a car even if you are a passenger, there has to be some good come from a tragic avoidable incident.

I can't believe some of the comments on the Echo website from old and young alike.

http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/loc..._Number_of_injured_rises_in_Thorpe_Bay_crash/

An extended family member of mine was killed in a road accident last year and when the incident was initially reported in the Echo there was some confusion about what actually happened and as a result some blame was unfairly attributed to my relative.

Before the full facts became clear there were a lot of hurtful comments made on the website by people connected to the parties involved and even complete strangers. As a result the whole thread became a bit of a distasteful slanging match apportioning blame, maybe understandable given the grief people were feeling but not very edifying.

The internet can be used for so many positive things but unfortunately giving people free reign to post their comments on such sensitive issues can do far more harm than good.

Well said Libertine, I'm glad this thread has been opened up after the closure of the other one to allow people obviously affected by this terrible incident some comfort, and to allow the expression of symathy by those who wish to who are not connected.

Haven't looked at the Echo site yet, but I understand there were reports that one of those primarily involved was related to Peter Taylor?

I feel for those youngsters on here genuinely affected, and I pray for the recovery of those in hospital and for strength for their families. If the outcome of this makes any new drivers drive with more awareness then that can only be good.

Yeah apparently there is some ctivity deep in her brain so they are keeping the life support machine on, if it improves they are gunna give her some scans and an MRA scan. If these are successful doctors should be able to start helping her to recover, if they aren't successful then the life support machine will probably be turned off on Tuesday, I hope she stays strong.

Thats what it said in the NOTW

hope anyone who was badly hurt makes a full recovery, unfortunately this sort of incident seems to happen too often nowadays.

My best wishes for a full and speedy recovery go out to everyone involved in this tragic accident.

The everyone is important here, as mentioned, some of the comments on the Echo site don't make good reading. The family of the driver will be suffering as well, and of course, he will be too. They all deserve our sympathies and good wishes.

Yes the drivers family will be suffering as they have for years with young benny boy, lovely family and i think the taylor link is on the mothers side, peter would come and watch ben play every now and again.
Jack Horton is a great lad and any parent would be proud to call him a son,i hope he and the other young girl pull through this ok and can look back in years to come and suffer no lasting pain.

Looked at the Echo site and some of the comments are disgraceful! Everyone involved has suffered, some of the comments are making out the driver was speeding at 80mph swerving up and down the road drunk while the kids were walking down the middle of the road shouting with beer cans, they are awful allegations to make and if they read the article they would know the kids were just walking home on the pavement and the driver did nothing purposefully wrong. I have to say though that everyone has been very supportive to the people involved and the people affected have been helped out too.

It said on Anglia News the bunch of kids were sitting on the wall of one of their house's after 2 groups of friends had bumped into each other walking back from Thorpe Bay station.

From what I have heard they were walking home but to be honest only the people there knows what happenned, I don't like people spreading rumours about it, I think everyone should just be supportive and not make rumours about what happenned

No good point, although to be fair I was only quoting what I'd seen on the TV. I figure that local TV news journalists might get a reasonable handle on what's actually happened. The guy even went as far as saying one of the groups had just eaten in Nando's, not the kind of info a journo would just go & make up!

No comment on the Southend Hospital spokesman though.....
