Tories issued a 3 line whip to keep the Windrush documentation out of public view. Bearing in mind that they really really need to be seen to be dealing with this fairly this is a very harsh move.
I think we can safely conclude that as May was Home Secretary for 6 years they are definitely hiding something that would lead to her having to resign as PM.
Windrush has been a massive scandal - very disappointed that the Government's hollow promises to make amends have fallen at the first hurdle and disappointed that BBC 10 o'clock News feel that the vote to keep these details secret is not worth a mention in their broadcast. As Dianne Abbott said:-“After losing her human shield with the resignation of Amber Rudd, the architect of this scandal, Theresa May, ordered her MPs to vote to cover up the truth of her involvement.”

No one will give a **** about windrush in three weeks .. dead woman walking can now stagger on till October when the votes in parliament get ugly again. She is walking a lot further than anyone thought possible
Have to agree.... come July, Windrush will be nothing more than chip paper. Just the same as no one remembers or talks about the previous Secretary Of Defence Michael Fallon's resignation over sexual harassment scandal. (usually by finding another scandal caused by a rival party in order to bury it).
All political parties have the uncanny knack of sweeping bad news under the carpet pretty damn quickly.
I never thought I'd say this, but well done to the Government in cutting the largest bet to £2 on fixed odds gambling machines. See, it must feel good to put people before profits for a change?
quite an easy decision to be fair.
Oh I don't know. The big gambling companies are saying they expect to close 100s of shops and put thousands out of work.
Southend boy Matt Zarb-Cousin has been campaigning hard for this.I never thought I'd say this, but well done to the Government in cutting the largest bet to £2 on fixed odds gambling machines. See, it must feel good to put people before profits for a change?

I suspect around a third of the UK's 9,000-ish betting shops will close over the next three-four years as a result of this.
FOBTs account for well over half of shop profits these days - they provided a lot of shops with a stay of execution as the reasons for regular sports bettors to bet in shop rather than online have been decreasing for the last 18 years.
Bookmakers have already had the Golden Goose. They've all made Millions out of FOBT. Maybe they should concentrate on being proper Bookmakers from now on.
They've been allowed to get away with murder for too long. For example, if you go in a Bookmakers and ask for £100 bet on a horse at odds of 3/1 or bigger, most of them will say you can have about 40 quid on that horse. But, you are allowed to put Thousands in the FOBT with no limit, despite all that responsible gambling nonsense.
Also, they've been doing unfair practice in the way they give free money away to get people to open an account. Some free money has to be wagered something ridiculous like 40 times, meaning it ends up not being free money.
The other thing is they ban all winning accounts as you are on trial from your first bet. They of course never ban losing accounts or mug punters. They don't ban people that only play on their online casino or slots, as they know they won't win in the end even if they get off to a good start.
Also, half the punters play the slots on the FOBT, and the lowest bet per spin is 20 pence, it doesn't sound a lot but that can be 20 pence every 5 seconds. A friend of mine lost £600 playing those slots at 20 pence per spin in about 3 hours. So I hope they lower the stakes for them as well.
That ship has sailed - thanks to Betfair margins have eroded massively, making it ever less viable to run a shop business based purely on sports betting. I've seen people on Twitter hoping bookmakers will return to the 'good old days'. Like 9% tax on all bets and no singles on non-televised football?
They have definitely been far too slow to step up to the plate there. So much FOBT activity in shop is blatantly money laundering. PS - Coral and Ladbrokes will lay to lose up to £1,000 on all races shown live on ITV/ITV4.
That's only on casino to be fair (albeit still shocking). Rare for the turnover requirements on a new sports betting account to be more than 1x. A sports site that tries to pull a trick like that won't survive for long.
Some do, some don't. I'm definitely up on some of my accounts that are still open. For every punter who moans loudly about 'Bet £3.65' or 'Sly Bet' there are plenty who get on just fine. Others are indecently quick to pull the shutters up. But the fact that they will gladly accommodate anyone no matter what on their gaming platforms does stick in the craw
I am surprised speed of play has been such a small part of the debate; I think that should have been looked at more closely. I hope your friend was able to seek help, that sounds like a gambling problem.
