SUFC: The Future The West Stand

Here's an aerial shot from Google. It's very wide for a retaining wall, not sure it needs to be as big as that. The other question is what are they doing about the old West Stand ticket office building? That's just wasted space as it's not used any more.

What a difference to that part of the ground if 54a, 52a 50 & 48 Shakespere Dr could be purchased and removed.. Im sure it would be too expensive and appologies if anyone lives in one of them but could transform safety & facilitites

I totally agree (and trust you on the women's loos) but just don't think this is at the top of the priority list for them.
Not top priority because it has no monetary return!

It really is basics when it comes to the toilets. How are we supposed to attract new and different dynamics to the football club? Those that get tanked up before the game probably don’t care, but what about families, those taking their kids for the first time. In a post Covid era there has been an increase in hygiene and people’s awareness to it. You’d think it was a third world country toilet in some of them. I managed to get hot running water, soap, flushing toilets and doors that lock in Afghan during a conflict. Don’t get any of those at Roots Hall in some of the toilets. A full season after highlighting them through all the channels as suggested.

They are basic needs, yes they bring no monetary increase but they are basic welfare facilities for people paying to enter a stadium that once in are in for 90+ minutes.

For me some I get won’t be quick fixes but to say they are not top priority is pretty shocking.

I thought the toilets in the west were much improved tbf, there were ceiling tiles falling through last season!

The priority is the East stand because it can generate non-matchday revenue. I know they were at least having discussions about a full stadium refurb (NOT REBUILD) so that lots of these amenities could be improved but it will almost certainly be East first as it opens up desperately needed revenue streams.
As the Club officials already know, if they are waiting to deliver the East Stand before touching any other part of the ground, this simply won't stack up commercially.
There are simple and cost effective measures which can be deployed to tart up the West Stand, and which would create a far better environment for it's occupants.
Likewise, there are three or four options for the North, but this is likely tied in to the masterplanning around the East (albeit not wedded in terms of programme for delivery).

I'd argue that it does ultimately hit the bottom line, because there is only so long that people will keep attending a stadium which has third world toilets and Step 5 food and beverage offerings - this isn't the 70s...clubs can't get away with treating paying punters like cattle.
The quality of the supporting infrastructure at RH is appalling, and you've no doubt all seen , first hand, that that limited infrastructure collapses when exposed to crowds in excess of 7k or so.
Serious decisions need to be made this closed season.

I totally agree.
The match day experience is just as important as the football and can sometimes make the difference on whether some will return.
Think of it this way - if you don’t want to use the facilities at the ground because they are sub- standard then most likely they won’t purchase anything I.e drinks for fear of needing the toilet. I actually queued up with a dad taking his daughter to the game a couple of weeks back. I had no issue whatsoever that he queued up at the female toilet with his very young daughter but, I certainly would not want to bring my granddaughter if the toilets remain in the state they are. Luckily for me (due to my job) I am very mindful around hand hygiene and carry sanitiser with me which I often now share out.

What he said.

Perhaps employing a toilet attendant for match days might help? The West Stand traps were truly disgusting last Saturday. All were unflushed at one time rendering them unusable, (or couldn't be flushed as the cisterns didn't fill up fast enough).

You can only make one first impression and people visiting for the first time (especially with children) may not return! I certainly wouldn't take my grandchildren to Roots Hall.

See this is another side effect of the West/North gate being shut. No access to the burger van, crap toilets and no ability to nip and use the far superior versions in the North. Ok TBV make a lot of noise but for **** sake, we’ve tried to give it some in V block last few games. Hopefully upgrades in summer are coming.
