The suspects

It is instructive to look at the difference between Christianity and Islam. Christians believe that it isn't what you do that earns you salvation but what (and who) you believe in. How you behave, therefore is consequent on that - you simply can't "earn" paradise.

In Islam, salvation is dependent on you doing more "good" deeds than "bad" ones. On judgement day, your good deeds are weighed against your bad ones and you just have to hope that the scales come down on your side.

This means that to tell a Christian that he can earn paradise is against the root of his belief. If he believes in Jesus, then he has no need to do anything else, Jesus takes care of it, so it makes it very hard to persuade him to an act like suicide bombing, especially when Jesus was so specific about loving your enemies and forgiveness.

But to a Muslim, it makes perfect sense. Who can be certain that his good deeds outweigh his bad? So raise that doubt in his mind, warn him of all the "Snakes" on the board of life just waiting to slide him to hell - then point out the "Ladder" called Martyrdom leading straight to paradise for eternity.

That quote from Maureen Metcalf explains in far more detail the point I was trying to make in a post I made in the 'Todays Troubles' thread.

I have no doubt that eventually, with this governments domestic policy regarding multiculturalism and integration and to a far greater extent it's foreign policy on the war on terror, we shall see the escalation of tensions between the Muslim/Islamic and other communities in this country.
It is the ultimate intent of some of the more extreme Muslim clerics within the UK to see the Islamic flag flying over all government buildings with the ultimate goal of seeing the UK turned to the Islamic fundamentalist ideology that is converting and having such an influence on so many of the Muslim youth within the UK.

Something that disturbs me greatly concerning the integration of Muslim and ethnic minorities into the British mainstream communities is I really don't see much integration going on. Across Britain it's plain to see that some Muslim communities have grown to such an extent that they have become virtual no go zones for your average white Christian. (areas of Luton & Bradford spring to mind).
Whilst the vast majority of Muslims within the UK abide by the laws of the land and embrace our way of life and traditions it is somewhat contradictory to call it integration when the very fact that these Muslim areas I mentioned earlier have in effect segregated themselves from the wider community, and with this Governments current domestic and foreign policies that segregation and feelings of disenfranchisement felt by so many Muslims can only get worse.

I don't believe multicutural societies do any thing more than breed resentment, jealousy and hatred.
As mentioned in the last post, integration is the key. The Dutch have undertaken a strict policy on this and they're meant to be the most passive in Europe. They also learnt their lesson quicker. It only took two acts of terrorism for them ( two assassinations ) before they acted.
We've lost over 50 citizens and we're still waiting for any real kind of enforcable legislation because we're too scared of offending anyone. It would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic.

We have been subjected to an experiment about which we were not consulted, nor against which, looking at the policies of the main stream parties, were we given a chance to vote. If moderate voices tried to open a debate about it, they were screamed at as racist.

But the issue here is not racism, it is cultural imperialism. We are roundly criticized for having never adapted to other countries we lived in, yet now we are told that we have to respect other cultures at the cost of our own. They do not have to learn the language or customs here, and the result is becoming apparent.

Just a small observation. All this seems like convenient timing to me.

I won't be making any judgements on the alleged conspirators until they've been through the justice system. We've seen all this before.
