A startling trend of converted Muslim's being linked to these attacks is evidence that, to some degree, theres an element of brainwashing these people into doing these attrocities. There picking up students from universities and persuading them to join the cause that is "all right and good".

People like Cap'N Hook and Zarqawi should've been booted out or imprisoned long before they were, and any more that squirm out of the woodwork should be instantly deported the moment they start spreading that venomous Bullsh!t in the middle of trafalgar Square...

Interestingly, I had an Arabic (Jordanian) guy in my corridor at uni and was quite good mates with him for a few years but we've not been in touch for ages. Hearing him talk about general issues in life was so interesting because everything seems so different.

One time he pointed out how English people often use the term 'gay' when taking the mick or insulting someone yet we are falling over each other to promote their equal rights. In contrast, apparently, it is fairly common for good mates in Jordan to walk around with an arm round the other's shoulder and yet every one of his friends that I met (and him) were fiercely homophobic.

The relevance? Well, I remember talking to him about the situation in Palestine in the first year and a spate of suicide bombings that had happened. Both my English mate and I couldn't believe that people would sacrifice their own life but he said that they are fighting against a military force that they can not beat. That force are occupying their country and the only way that they can combat them is through this means. It really showed how different our perspectives were. We would draw the line at loss of innocent life whereas he looked at it as the only way in which to win a war.

We asked him if he would and he said that if Jordan had been occupied by another country, he would do the same.

For the record, he is a Christian.

I knew the guy well enough to know that he was strong-minded enough not to be persuaded that the best way to retaliate against your enemy is an attack in their country against their civilians but it seems clear to me that with this mindset, more impressionable people can easily be coerced.

Stopping the preaching of hate towards our country and our allies would be a good start in my eyes but the problem is far more deep rooted than this

Religious extremisim is not just the domain of muslims...
We have suffered over the years in this country from catholics bombing protestants. Protestants attempted genocide on Catholics. Puritan protestants persecuting the slightly more liberal Protestants. Everybody ganging up on the pagans.
Even those who don't have a religion at all (Communists) have copped a fair bit of stick.

Islam is no different.

Those who chose to become Christian in later life are usually far for Christian than those who have been brought up in a Christian lifestyle all their life.

On a serious note though, it is not really a suprise that the suspects have Islamic names. The more interesting thing is who is behind all this? I'd imagine these guys are just the 'mercanaries' carrying out the operation with some big timers behind the plot....

I read a fascinating article the other day blaming sexual frustration and opression of muslims for all terrorism and fundamentalism....

was a little far fetched in places, but said that as young muslim are kept seperate, women covered up, forbidden to masturbate etc it breeds sexual frustration which errupts....

we all knoe what its like to go for a while without getting any, but this is another level!!!

As i said, it wasn't a totally scholarlly peice of work, but it iullstration perhaps one of the many contributing factors to this rise in fundamentalism and terrorism!
