The Student Thread

Pubey

Guest
Thought I would make a thread for all the students kicking around on SZ... like Dadzone, we can discuss things such as kebabs, dissertations, uni sport and libraries!

Feel free to get involved if you are a student, are applying to a uni or what to remenisce about the 'good ol' days!'

to kick things off... I'm currently doing a masters at LSE (london school of economics) in health economics. When it was the united game i was very shocked and pleased to find a fellow shrimper in colours working in the union shop... the next day he wasn't there however so i assumed he was hungover

anyone else had any on-campus shrimper moments??

I'm at University of Central England (Birmingham) one day a week, BSc Computing & Electronics.

I've got to say (and I'm really sorry to you student types) that the 18/19yr old students at my place are fugging idiots.

Either that or I'm a grumpy old man at 35

cool.. i had a mate at UCE doing music. It seems that most 18/19 yo's are idiots.. just the way it is these days

Here comes a rant.......

They act like schoolboys when they deem in necessary to turn up to lectures (poncing around with their mobiles/laptops)....sitting at the back and giggling like fugging schoolgirls.

Hand their assignments in late and moan when their mark is slashed.

Would rather play some shooty game that do the work in the labs (we've got a sh!te load of PC's at UCE).

AND THEY EXPECT TO WALK INTO A £30K JOB WHEN THEY MANAGE TO SCRAPE OVER THE FINISH LINE WITH A 2:2

Waste of time and money....."Do you want fries with that?" will be the only thing they say after (IF) they graduate

Rant over, I feel better now.

No I agree with you, and i'm 23.

They are a complete nightmare now and when I started at the uni in 2004.

They even stoop to lower levels now, by dressing up in drag for nights out....

oi! thats the good side... i think i'm lucky (without sounding snobby) that the large majority at LSE (and to some extent leicester where i did my undergrad) are their because they really want to be... and when paying astronomical tuition fees you cant really afford to doss around

but the dressing up bit is probably the best part of uni!

I'm doing a PhD at Goldsmiths + also teach on some media courses there. It's full of w&nkers.

did have a great SUFC moment during my undergrad days at UEA (Norwich) when i came out of the weekly meat-market club night to encounter a guy who i last remembered selling Whats The Story, Southends Glory outside the West Stand in the 1990's. turns out he was a couple of years below me, and we whiled away a happy hour or so finding names of Southend players/good people in Championship Manager aboslutely hilarious. To this day, any mention of Graham Bressington reduces me to fits of laughter...

A bit harsh, I only dressed up like that once, and plan to keep it that way.

I'm at the Uni of Gloucestershire studying Exercise & Health Sciences, which if i'm honest I've found fairly easy so far so have spent most of my time drinking. Well, it would be rude not to at those prices.

Oh and the dressing up is the best part, apart from the dress that is.

Ah, university. For those of you lucky enough to still be there, make the most of it and stay there for as long as possible, the real world is sh!t

The first year is always easy!

Wait til you hit the 2nd and third year at Glos uni. You'll be lucky to make it out twice a week as there is so much work. But then I am doing 2 completely different subjects in my Joint degree, which are probably much harder than what you are doing
