The squad

The management trio have done a great job in trying to make positive changes.

That said we are still short of a few players that can really influence a game.

Demetriou
Dunne
White
Stewart
Egbri
Coulson
ANG
Will all undoubtedly be moved on.

Neil and Dennis will probably go back their parent clubs.

That leaves us needing to sign at least 5 or 6 players better or equal to the above.

Given the scouting of cardwell, Husin and powell I'd expect the same or similar type signings in the summer.

Tonight highlighted an imbalance and a reliance on loanees.

You forgot to add Hobson to that list. The guy a liability!

I’m not so sure Demetriou will move on. He was poor tonight but Maher has picked him fairly consistently over Davies.

Dunne is under contract for another season. His contract will be tough to move on.

Stewart went a few weeks ago and is at Canvey now.

Re dunne. It depends if he wants to play. He won't get a game at blues. As a footballer in your twilight, you'd want to play.

I think JD will still be here next season, he has been a regular pick under Kev, and often been spoken about extremely highly in the press too.

Dunne still has another year on his deal, so could be here next year too. As you say, we’ll be losing Neal out of our midfield, and Dunne has been a regular on the bench and made fleeting appearances too.

There maybe a future for ANG too, depending on how he is rated by Kev, and how his return goes.

I’m 99% certain Dennis won’t be going back to Norwich, I’m certain he’ll be released in the Summer, so we do have a slim chance of picking him up, but he does have other suitors, and some from higher up.

Let's not hang our hopes on Akinola again. He clearly has injury problems and had one prolific season in this league. Move on and look at younger fitter players.
I don’t think anyone is hanging their hopes on Akinola but it could be a situation like Ralph where he trains with us and if we like what we see in pre-season we add him.

I’m not sure about the financial side of things. He’ll need to take a pay cut (he signed as a L2 player and we probably paid a premium to make him stick around until we could register him in December).

We will have a lot of players leaving the summer. A real chance for Maher and co to stamp their mark.

Release/Choose to leave; Ralph, Coulson, Ogogo, Akinola, Howard, MMN, Reiss Chandler, Gard, Phillips, Egbri

Back to parent club; Dennis, Neal

Released Youth; Wallace, Anyadike, Lambourne, Davis, Unwin, Shala, Brown

Transfer; Grossart

Sign; Demetriou, Davies, Clifford, ANG, Bridge, Atkinson, Rush, Kinali, Benton

Leaving us with;

Arnold, Ndi
Demetriou, Davies, Clifford, Hobson, Kensdale
ANG, Powell, Bridge, Atkinson, Wood, Dunne, Husin, Kinali, Benton
Murphy, Cardwell, Dalby, Rush

A decent bass. 4-5 defenders, 1 CM, 2 Wingers and a striker

He was a part of our 13 match unbeaten run. All players at this level have bad matches, they wouldn't be at this level otherwise.
He limited defender.... granted he will give 100% effort but he is very clumsy in and out of possession. Hobson not the sort of player required for a promotion push next season.

I think Demetriou, Atkinson and Dunne will stay next season. Most likely as back-up players as they shouldn't be players we look to build a team around. I don't know about Davies. He could be a good player for us, but I think we could find better. Being played on the left seems to be uncomfortable for him and hasn't allowed him to show his best performances.

Coulson, Ogogo, Phillips, Egbri and most of the remaining under 23s will most likely leave at the end of the season. Maybe some under 23s will remain and be loaned out if they have shown good potential.

I hope they give Akinola, ANG, Benton and Davis a chance in pre-season to prove themselves. If they don't grab their chance then they can move on. I would include Rush, Kinali and Gard in that, but they've been involved in training (I assume) for most of the season and been sent out on loan. Those three are in the 21-23 age range where if they aren't competing for first team games then they should be moved on.

Potentially leaves us with (16 - 20 players):

GK: Arnold, Ndi
FB/WB: Demetriou, Clifford
CB: Hobson, Kensdale, Ralph (plus potentially Davis)
CM: Atkinson, Husin, Dunne
AM/WG: Powell, Bridge, Wood (plus potentially Benton, Akinola and ANG)
ST: Murphy, Cardwell, Dalby

Our summer shopping list could consist of (up to 7 players):
  • A right wing-back/full-back, a regular starter
  • A left wing-back/full-back, someone to compete with Clifford
  • 2 Central defenders, at least one with commanding leadership skills
  • 2 Central midfielders, one to replace Neal and another to replace Atkinson (even if he doesn't leave)
  • 1 winger/striker, someone to replace Dennis/Akinola/ANG

I hope Stan is up and about in Liverpool or Nottingham with recruits in the pipeline and ready for Plan B. Hopefully there is a recognition that an injury to Kensdale or Holmes , leaves us with one centre back, unless Coulson or White are recalled

Suddenly looking slim with Cardwell not there yet, ANG injured at Ebbsfleet, No Murphy or Akinola, Kasper gone, Ogogo ( heart issues), Husin away and suspended, are we down to 15 left standing for service? and back towards the reliance on recalled kids

Ricky??? He's always injured and struggling a bit for height in the CB postion @Barry.C.

Ralph is probably our best footballer within our defence. Interested to know why you would want him out.
Guessing he thinks Ralph might demand a transfer back to the football league. Can’t blame him if he does to be honest.
