Question The North Bank and your thoughts?

The only way it works is if the right people are in the North Bank. Yesterday it was 90% part-time fans and families coming along for a festive fixture.

Charging our fans to relocate (disgraceful), blocking access to the West and giving them the wrong side of the North Bank is massively counterproductive and quite frankly pointless.

Stick the away fans in the corner ffs. It’s the only way. Even if it requires some work. Keep the NB shut until that’s possible.

Perhaps next season it can be managed properly.

Who are these “right” people???

Full time fans interested in creating an atmosphere in the stadiums historic home of atmosphere creation. Nothing against part-time fans, they are most welcome and hopefully will join in. But if the club want to create a proper home end and increase the atmosphere, it needs to be done properly. The only way that happens is if the NB has plenty of W block/Atmosphere generators in there. Fair comment I think?

Yeah, I see where you’re coming from. And the NB is our spiritual home and would love for TBV to relocate there. I’m sure a lot of them are probably too young to remember the days of the Roots Hall Roar. Bring it back!!!

Probably wont be many of us in the North Bank v Southport but should be a better atmosphere than previous Trophy games.
I'll be in there for this one as I can't stand the east stand.

As for the league games I'll stay out in the west.

If there was an option for walking round and joining after half time if we were kicking towards the north. That's unlikely to happen.

If they rebuild the north with a safe standing option I'd be in.

I moved my 3 tickets on the day when I heard the Blue Voice was in the NB. Cost me £24.
They refunded the value of the season tickets and had to pay "on the day price". Which was a complete scam but thought i would try it.

Given how few people were singing the noise was impressive.

Lots of tourists - as anyone who bought last minute had the option of South Lower or North Bank.

The club needs to encourage all of Block W over as the priority, it will be so much louder due to the roof.

I will probably move my 3 season tickets permanently.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. The original North Bank was like many other similar fan ends at other clubs and those were the days where punch ups between fans was weekly. Rivals were huge and we had lads who are unlike anything we see today. Culture has changed.

I think the football experience has also changed a lot over the years, it is more of a family thing now. Gone are those heady days and I personally think the North Bank will be very hard to resurrect, it might work under a different guise but it will never be the same as it once was. People who love singing etc have made X block their home and it will be hard to change that after so many years.
People feel nostalgic about those days gone by but they are exactly that. Gone.
Exactly. The North Bank we all loved was about the characters that stood in there. It was a time of rebelious youth cultures and the camraderie that came from them. Chaos and fighting were all part of the social fabric in the country at large and it all came together in Southend for 90 minutes on a Friday night. It's impossible to create that in this day and age.

Well if you want some, I’ll give it ya.

Watching the behind the scenes footage of the players clapping the fans after the game, even 30 fans in the north bank sounded louder than a full W block on the pitch - those acoustics ain't no joke.
Yeah on the Facebook feed, we were singing Pepple again ole ole you can hear that on the pitch clearly over the West stand chants

The thing to remember here, is we have one of the loudest support in this league. Sheer numbers when we go away and song list that continues right through the game, its a very vocal support aided by our superb drummer, we outsing everyone. Now let's put these guys to our advantage, putting the keeper off behind the goal, swaying refs decisions, making Roots Hall a fortress can win us points.
I was saying the last few games, when did we last have a ref that was a real homer? I cant recall one. We hardly had a song aimed at Ebbsfleet fans as the North bank entertained the boys in the West stand.
I sat in the East during Tilly's reign and you could barely hear the West stand. But you could really hear every big away support.
I hope the club are paying attention to these ideas, the benefits of big support in the North stand and the acoustics are not to be ignored.

From the East, I thought the atmosphere was a bit flat, the blue voice in the west seemed unusually quiet and considering the amount of people in the North (which usually only needs a handful to make a racket) it didn’t really appear to be very loud..

Probably sounded better from elsewhere but overall given the size of the crowd I was surprised how subdued it seemed..
Boxing day never has big atmospheres...family, non regulars etc etc always a more chilled one.

I suppose one of the issues, is that the TBV in W Block have bought season tickets for that area. At the moment, they probably don't want to move. However, they may switch to there at the start of next season if these teething problems can be sorted ?

I'm not convinced there will be enough of an uptake to make this a profitable move for the club, and at the end of the day, profit is the driver in most things they do. I have no doubt that there are many that would think about making the move, but I just don't know how many would actually do it. I've long since finished my North Stand apprenticeship (60s/70s) and I will remain in the relative comfort and balanced veiwing in the West. The problem that I foresee is that the North Stand can never be for die hard, stand up, sing loud supporters only because there ain't enough of them, and others will buy tickets there as well. So what next? let the club follow the feedback (and undoubtedly they are) and see how it unravels, but I think @Cricko has called it correctly.
