The Macca thread

Tangled up in Blue

Certified Senior Citizen⭐🦐
Why don't we just have a seperate Macca thread so anyone who wants to post something about him can put it here rather than taking over other threads eg the Hartlepool match reports?
Closing date for the thread would have to be in January of course!;)

Its funny how Macca has polarised opinion among Southend Fans, hate him love him in equal measure. He came to this club on loan from Preston and fitted in straight away, he is now the heartbeat of the club along with Barrett, sometimes he is outstanding and sometimes he is clearly not,but frankly I wouldn't swap him for some of the useless idiots who didn't give a rats arse for this club who are legion(add whatever name you like there are plenty to choose from).

And if he does go in January(there I go again responding to my own posts) I say thanks mate you did add to the sum total of this club unlike many others.

Actually GAR this pretty much sums up my own attitude to Macca.
We all know that his passing isn't the greatest,he picks up too many yellow(and the occasional red)cards and IMO(and that of quite a few others)he's not the player he was before he got injured.
However his attitude to the game and commitment to the club has never been in doubt. If he DOES move in January we'll certainly miss him.He makes Stuart Thurgood look like the boy he of course was.

It's over 18 months I think since he was sent off last, maybe his temperament has softened somewhat and it's that that has made him a "lesser" player in some people's eyes.

Only if you admit you'd rather have Stuart Thurgood in midfield instead of Macca

And never in a million years!!!

Fair point. As I said he gets the occasional red.Quite a few IIRC before his injury.
Kay,you should really start billing Macca for your services as his unofficial internet press secretary.;)

Billing him for services rendered? Oh that'd go down well! :nope:

One thing he needs to stop doing is having a go at his team mates all the time.

It seems that nobody is allowed to shoot, or pass to anyone else, when he is anywhere near the ball. He clearly feels they should pass the ball to him, as he is more capable of making something happen and is always in a better position.

It is only a matter of time before someone smacks him one (again)!

Doesn't that show show just how much he cares though? I never minded a good balling out from a teamate when I was playing, god knows I needed it at times! These are professional football players not 7 year olds and if it's a deserved rollocking they should be able to take it in the spirit it is meant and get their nut down and prove people wrong.

Much rather players showed a bit of passion than troop round with their heads down, hands on hips.

As a general rule I think he tends to do it to those that run with their head down and are completely unaware of where others are, in which case he's right - and it's not something Barrett can do from his area of play. Since the "disagreement" with Franny, I've not noticed it there, occasionally it's directed at Jeff, but more usually it's Moussa or Scannell, both of whom are very guilty of this. Theo was another who used to get it, all very similar in their manner of attack.

Like I said, I don't think Moussa holds any grudge, they seemed to be getting on absolutely fine in the warm down after the match on Saturday.

If I was playing with Moussa & Scannell I think they may be on the receiving end of this type of erm 'encouragement' on a regular basis. For someone so highly rated Moussa drifts out of games far too much for me and is constantly drawn to the centre of the park like a moth to a flame just when we are crying out for some width. Scannell for me seems largely unaware of the whereabouts of his colleagues and rarely have I seen a professional football player kick the ball away without looking up quite so much as he does. (cracking cross on sat though!)

I have no problem whatsoever with a gentle reminder of what they could possibly be doing different from a more senior colleaugue and they shouldn't do either.

I love macca, but this seaeson his passing has been very iffy and his shooting has been woeful, his drive and determination in the middle of the park is vital to the team, on his day he dominates opposing midfielders and sets a good tempo.

I agree to a certain extent but he can be just as bad, if not worse, so should either lead by example or keep his gob shut!

I think we should have a seperate because the ratings threads always turn into a macca/moussa argument and its getting very tedious!

I don't have too much of a problem with his performances. He does break up play very well and has great stamina.

The way he made Barnards first goal is a typical example of what he is really good at.

However, he is getting on my nerves with his constant Discussing at his team mates when most of the time it isn't needed.

A good example is when the ball came out to the edge of the box in the first half and both he and Moussa had a shot lined up. Either Moussa got there first or he shouted at Macca to leave it for him, but Moussa ended up getting a shot away (not a great effort) and Macca went mental as if to say 'you should have left it to me, I would have stuck it in the top corner!' (When we all know it is just as likely to end up in row Z)!

That has nothing to do with not looking up or passing it to a player in a better goalscoring position. Pure arrogance!
