The Leon Clarke Situation

Bromley Blue

The artist formerly known as the_saafender
After witnessing another great strike from Leon yesterday at Vale Park, I had a quick look at a Sheff Wed forum when I got in. As we have an ex-shrimpers section on our forum I thought it was pretty likely someone on their would want to discuss Leon's form since he's been with us.

It seems from reading the thread that a lot of Wednesday fans rate Leon more than Deon Burton and so although a deal has been discussed can Wednesday pull the plug if they wake up and realise they're getting rid of a real star?

Different teams suit different players. It may simply be that he suits the balls played to him by our midfield.

Lets also remember that Leon is now playing in League One. It may also make him look good against slightly lesser opposition compared to his previous clubs.

I dont think that just because a player looks good having gone to another club that it would necessarily be beneficial to them to get him back. Teams would sometimes be looking backwards rather than forwards and never move on to get in players which are more suited to their style of play.

Guess we will have to wait until January to find out. If we do sign him, then on current form it would be a great signing for us.

i think some fans on there are talking silly money. 500k plus, some even talking over a mill. if he was worth this we wouldn't be able to afford him anyway. I think 250-300k would be the sort of price we would be paying.

would be gutted if we didn't get a deal done in january. 4 goals in 4 games. Sign him up!

At this moment £500k, compared with £200k+ for Paynter and Foran, is an absolute steal ! If that is indeed the figure i'd pay it, this man can be the one who fires us out of this division. Obviously if its £200-300k then i'd be extremely happy.

I agree with you Class, that's the figure I hear is being talked about, £150k if we like him and he likes us. Which appears to be the case at the moment. We also have in the loan deal that Wednesday cannot recall him, which again would appear to be a signal the Wednesday do seem willing to let him go. That's why I'm hoping that Brain Laws stays in his position until mid Jan so we can complete the deal.

Well with all the support from the terraces he is getting both home and away, hopefully he knows he is appreciated here for all his effort.

you get the impression he wants to be somewhere where he is appreciated. In his first interview he said he wants to be a fans favourite. He couldn't have asked for a better start and is going to right way about it.

maybe even a knew chant?

Leeeeeon, Leon Clarke, Leeeeeon, Leon Clarke, Leeeeon, Leon Clark.

Leon, Leon, Clarrrrrrrke....

Do you think you need some more words in the lyrics?

If he carries on the way he has been so far for us, then £150K would be a steal.

That chip for his goal at Roots Hall was just superb.....more cheek than an elephants backside to do it from there but fantastic. I hope he hasnt peaked this season.

I believe it's all done and dusted and we're just waiting until January. The fee being £200k.

The contract dictates that Wednesday cannot recall him and Leon has even bought a house in Thorpe Bay so I'm told.

And who would argue.....even your flag got a mention on BBC Essex commentary on Saturday! :p

The attempt to chip the keeper yesterday from roughly 12 yards, which resulted in a fine save and a corner for us was just sublime. Seen it attempted at this level a few times, usually clearing the bar by a good 5 yards. There is now doubting Leons touch and feel for the the ball, and that is a quality that can't be taught. Fantastic aquisition if all turns out as most of us hope.

150k is excellent business we get a player for 10% of what we sold Eastwood for who can score goals :D I say that is good business. But only time will tell with this one.

Hopefully we could also look at bringing in a competent foil for him too in January.

even Rodgers looked like he would cause problems for a lot of opponents if given better support.

I know someone who says Leon has bought a house near him to confirm that. He is a very reliable source of info. If this is true he must be coming to the blues in january. Will be good.

Yeah I put the question to my mate, would leon have been a good partner for Freddy? I cant really see us signing another striker to play with him but yeah I'd love to see him play with a partner who is capable of bangin in a few himself.

Didn't he already get a place down by the seafront? Or is that temporary?

Saw on that Sheff. Wed. forum some joker going on about 2.5 million for Leon - what a spanner :thump: If we get him for around the same as we sold Paynter it would be fantastic business - think quotes of half a million are a bit much and i doubt tilly would spend that much on Leon
