Echo News "The hardest week I've had" - Shrimpers boss Maher

With reference to Kev Maher I have just read an interesting section on sports coaching and management on the BBC Test Match cricket blog. It refers to Freddie Flintoff and Brendon McCallum but I think it can be applied to Maher and his two amigos too:

"Sometimes it is a trait that is not spoken about enough - Freddie is kind. All of the things Fred can be, funny, extrovert.....he is kind. It is an underrated quality. Brendon and Fred might not be ones that plan the best but are the ones that make you feel the best.

"Players won't remember the tactics you told them three days before the game but they will always remember how you make them feel. You can have tactics that are fantastic but if it is not the right environment it is not going to work. Sometimes it is a mad tactic but the people feel empowered."
