The Cole-man cometh

fbm

Blue tinted optimist⭐🦐
Blues set to swoop for Mitchell Cole - could sign this week.

Beckett deal not yet dead in the water but not looking good. Tilson has advised that, which is unusual as he hasn't actually yet OFFICIALLY named him...

A great replacement for Nicky.
I didn't know Cole is a left back?

That joke was only slightly better than your, 'We signed a player at last' thread.

Its not in the bag yet, but I think it will be....

And if so, HALLELUJAH!!

Phew, that'll be our duck broken - perhaps we can now go on a run and get a few in the door!

A great replacement for Nicky.
Would have been even better to have them both though.
The more I think about it, the less I am convinced that we should have kept Nicky...

1) He was anything but stunning or consistent last year, despite showing some signs of ability.

2) There were question marks over his attitude and whether his presence in the dressing room was a good thing last year, if you remember. IIRC it was along the lines of "I'm from Arsenal and I'm much better than you lot"... hence him being bombed out of the matchday squads for so long by Tilly.

3) He only came back into a bit of form towards the end of the season when the big games were on and there were contracts to be won.

4) When, against the odds in my opinion, he was offered a contract - he dithered to such an extent that it appeared he was hawking his services to see if he could get a few pennies more... not exactly the kind of commitment we need.

All in all, I think we're probably better off without Nicky, which is a shame becuase he's clearly got ability in the wing role.

I just dont think he ever felt we were good enough for him (not the other way round).

And also, Nicky leaving freed up a bit of the wage bill and the amount of money we offered Nicky, Mitchell might jump at the chance to play for that amount.

Mr Suntan should remember the football world is full of former Arsenal/Man U/Liverpool etc* (*delete as applicable) youngsters, who end up playing for the likes of Hampton and Richmond/Droylesden/Skelmersdale United etc* (*delete as applicable) within a few years of leaving.

I would hope that the echo is correct in it's assertion that Cole is on his way, but wasn't it the Echo that reported he wasn't coming here a couple of weeks ago?

If the Beckett deal is looking unlikely, then I'm worrying a bit about the striker position...!

Alas, young Angell Delight - the strongest proponent of the Beckett move - has been awfully quiet today.

Alas, I believe that our fears that LB wouldn't move south will shortly be fully realised...

Matt

P.S. I still think that the biggest fool is Greenacre.  He'd have been perfect for us, and vice versa.  But instead he's up for a season of picking up splinters on Championship benches...

Oh, and incidentally, Deon Burton has gone to Rotherham - that's another potential striker we've missed out on.  This is not going well at all, is it?

I'm glad he's seen sense and opted for first team football rather than sitting in the reserves at Arsenal. He sounds like a talented young lad. About time we signed someone! Just need some strikers now.

Just a thought... if we could afford £200k for Beckett, then we can afford £200k for Holt - and we can afford his wages.

If Tilly wants him, and thinks he's worth it, then considering the situation we're in is there a chance we might go back in for him?

A £200-225k bid would certainly test Rochdale's resolve...

Trouble is, all these strikers we're being linked with are northern-based. Beckett obviously doesn't want to move south and Greenacre has opted for Tranmere, which is relatively near where he was. It might be that Holt doesn't want to move either - both Swansea and Yeovil failed with bids and he's just signed a one-year extension at Spotland.

Has Bruce Dyer signed for anyone yet?
