UKIP says anybody who wishes to come to the UK must be able to speak fluent English and have educational qualifications.

They must also demonstrate loyalty to the UK and be able to support themselves and their family without help from the taxpayer, it adds.

Nothing I can see - bloody good idea if you ask me. People who want to live in this country should show enough commitment to learn the language at least. The 'immigration freeze for 5 years' is a tad more contentious though.

As GrimmRobes put so concisely, though, they'll never win an election in a thousand years!

An immigration freeze?

That is the most ludicrous policy I think i may have ever heard! Can't see it going down well with business.

Business: "we want to build a specialist plant in the UK and invest millions of pounds, but will need to bring in a couple of experts from abroad who have actually got experience of running a plant like this."
UKIP: "no immigration!"

Business: "we're a foreign company looking to invest £x million pounds in the UK and base our headquarters in the UK. Can our chairman move to the UK?
UKIP: "no immigration!"

I suppose its just as well that they are an one issue party as the economic recession their policies would cause would give them no chance of being re-elected!

Thats not actually the current policy though, even if the Sun says it is...

Immigration should definitely be allowed as long as the immigrant demonstrates financial stability and skills for employment.

Many people just seem to think there should be no immigration full stop, which would be ridiculous, our Hospitals would be unstaffed for starters.

i don't think many people disagree with that... but what the UKIP bloke is suggesting is ludicrous (and I would argue detremental to our economy/society and the founding values of this country)

Yes well taking comments completely out of context will help that post count wont it. Zero immigration isn't workable, controlled is. If you try reading what UKIP are really suggesting instead of the edited highlights then you might see that.

It worked well in the labour shortages after both World Wars, it worked well enough during the 60's. it has done quite well in staffing the NHS. If lazy, too good to work for less than 10 quid an hour Brits were not abusing the social security system there would not be any jobs for "them " to come over and take. If greedy Employers and contractors didn't break the law in order to save a few bob there would be no chances for them to abuse the system.

I would suggest that those people in this country who think that our immigration policies have not worked vote with their money. Do not spend it in a non anglo saxon shop, go only to english doctors etc.
Careful though because you will need to check who is driving your train, delivering your food to the shops etc, I would hate for you to be hypocritical in any way..........

And just what are the founding values of this country? Please show me where in the Magna Carter it says every Tom, Dick or Harry regardless of status, wealth, language, or provision to support oneself and family are welcome to come to the British Isles and set up home with wileful disregard for the indigious population. Lets not tar everyone with the same brush but at the same time lets open our eyes and smell the coffee. We are a easy touch which is why we are the final destination.

Members of European states have freedom of movement amongst other european states. Nothing to do with immigration

Asylum seekers are looking for safety in this country , they are assessed and if accepted to this country they are accepted on Humanitarian grounds.
those who are not granted asylum are told to leave (that is the one area which could be tightened up on) if they do not leave they become Illegal Immigrants and they are just that , Illegal, they are not allowed to work and recieve no benefits, housing etc. The only money they get is from Employers acting illegally or crime.

Former Commonwealth countries have, as a part of the commonwealth, had the right to come to the "mother" land, this is a law that has been in place for donkeys years and has been used for decades to prop up our industries and fill jobs no one wants to do.

Which of these policies would UKIP or any other party actually be able to change............

It is all scaremongering to grab votes...
