The Big Society

Cameron is a first rate **** and is making himself look even more stupid than he is with this Big Society crap. Never have I disliked a politician more than this man, he is totally out of contact with reality and is pushing this country towards total collapse.

"The worst thing about this farce - the number of people, real people, whose lives will be damaged possibly irreversably by these disatrous fiscal policies".

The Big Society's the idea that the answer to everything isn't top down government regulation and that people should be proactive instead of sitting back whinging and expecting the government to do everything for them. It's the anitdote to the Nanny State.

About right.

“The most worrying thing about the ‘big society’ is that prime minister truly believes that policies of slash, burn and sack will make all our lives better, and not just for those for whom he is planning tax cuts.

“The logic of this is that his ideal society is Somalia where the state barely exists, and his hell the Scandinavian societies that the rest of us admire for combining quality services, equality and dynamic economies.”

What you mean the socialist ones? Careful you'll get tarred as a lefty mug.

That's right all those thousands of people losing their jobs at the moment through government cuts and their slash and burn attitude start getting proactive before you start joining the nanny state....

Oh wait ..it wasn't your choice in the first place, it was the government putting you out there.

Perhaps one of the soldiers sent the email to tell him he was out of a job whilst on duty in Afghanistan ought to start getting a bit more proactive, don't you think?

I interpret the big society as an attempt to save public money by asking citizens to take a bit of personal responsibility for their lives.

For example my neighbour left his bin bags out overnight. Foxes ripped them to shreds and scattered rubbish all over my crazy paving. Instead of burdening the refuse collectors I took personal ownership of the problem and scratched the word **** on the bonnet of his motor while he was asleep.

No its the extreme from one polar opposite to the other . Why can't we have teh balance of a welfare system that helps those genuinely in need . Supplied by the rest of society who are given social mobility opportunities and teh chance to live tehir life as they can .

And before anyone say its a fantasy its not ... Its called Norway, and i can tell you they are both richer and have a better quality of live then most of us .

I don't understand your banter and who the **** is James May? :dunce:

Davros is a DJ. There wasn't any nastiness in his post. Are you serious about James May? Presenter from Top Gear who says 'Oh **** or permission to say **** quite a lot.

Thanks GHG. My reference was an old Monty Python line - I think it went, "I don't understand your banter, old bean," so maybe my retort would have sounded a bit less edgy if I'd said that instead. I was just genuinely dumbfounded as I've never watched Top Gear. I remember when John Peel had a radio show of the same name though. :cricko:

ps. I didn't realise Davros was a DJ too.
pps. The older I get, the less I know.
