Question The Acceptance of Mediocrity

Are we ever going to be happy with mediocrity. I think this is the way it will be for a number of seasons.. I totally understand COSU's pragmatic reasons for doing things in their own way as it is of course financial based. Unfortunately this is not football in general as we as the fans want to see more on the pitch.

I don't disagree with that it is a long road but we do need to see the team progress and waiting for some sunshine window in January just seems another fend off .Then it wil be , the window is open and players suddenly have choices.

Faith? I certainly hope so, how many of you have it?

hopefully 3/4 Quality players to brought in before next season and give promotion a real go next season . getting out of the National League the only way of moving forward [ in my opinion ] COYB

I actually think this is an odd post to be honest. To ask whether we’re going to be happy with mediocrity suggests someone of significance connected with the club has told us that is all we can ever expect. From what I hear and see, no one wants mediocrity. Not Kev, not the players, not the general consortium nor our enthusiastic chairman. They have all made it clear that EFL football is the aim. Success is the aim!! They also want a well run business which does not have a near derelict ground, and wreck of a training facility. They want a club that can attract sponsorship and pay its suppliers, be a part of the community and not have the taxman knocking at the door more often that the postman. The building blocks are being put in place for ALL of that, and that will take time. Look at what’s been achieved in less than a year. Go peer over the fence at Fossets and see the changes at the training pitches. Go and look at our North bank and see it back operating. Open the club website and see all those lovely sponsor names. Listen to the talk of budgets available for January. Read the press about new and successful entrepreneurs joining our club.

No one has said that all needs to come at the expense of the playing side. No doubt, we’ll need to be shrewd and invest wisely, but we’ve got the team to do that.

Come on, man. Pull yourself together - it’s nearly Christmas, the time for cheer and positivity!!

(Sorry if I sound like I’m banging the keys angry as I write all this, just passionate!)

When things stagnate on here , rely on me to throw a spanner in the works.

I don’t really care as much as some do what league we’re in as long as I can turn up at the Hall, have my match day experience and watch competitive football. It’s my escape.

I don’t believe we’ll just be mid table and mediocre for years on end anyway. Sometime our luck will change. We almost made play offs twice and that was with everything going on off the pitch. It’ll take one great season.

So yeah I’ve got faith.

I liken it to the 'chicken & egg' syndrome, what comes first, success on the pitch or a financially stable business?. There needs to be a delicate balance between the two, & good luck to the consortium on achieving that!.
Without doubt imo, neither option is going to be a quick fix?.

In over 50 years of supporting the club, we were really just a div 3 & 4 side. Mostly OK sometimes really poor sometime very good. The fact is the NL with it current format is really difficult to get out of without significant financial input. So, unless we find a couple of players like Eastwood one season we will be stuck here for years.

I don't believe we are mediocre. Too many of our performances have been but, I believe our team is one of the top four in terms of ability in this division. Top four is not mediocre. Many fish are stunted by the size of their tank and with the right feed we will soon need to swim for the English Football Lake but, for now, we are seemingly short of food and turbo flippers. I still think, with the right guidance, we could have a tilt at the play offs. From there anything could happen.

Top one in this godforsaken league wouldn't qualify as mediocre.

Its great to just enjoy what COSU are doing , even if it takes a bit of time, although they have not been slow off the mark since actually finally getting their hands on the club
Mediocre means of moderate or low value, quality. ability or performance. Nobody wants that

I dont think the football has been of low value or poor quality, Ive seen some great stuff, albeit not always consistent and some naff days as always. Our younger players are developing and we are transitioning to a stronger outfit. We of course want entertaining football, and our players to show the commitment and love of the shirt. Im not convinced there's much difference either between us and the league above to watch or even some of league one, so that doesn't feel like mediocrity and I still have my club to watch and dream about

My only frustration is a bit more excitement on the playing staff /squad front. Why it takes us so long to get anyone in confuses me. Watching drying paint comes to mind and its clearly unnerving the Gaffer? So some mediocrity in my view on the pace of recruitment ? with too many excuses, clearly a myth that you cant get anyone of value in as 48 have arrived into squads in the past 8 weeks and many on loan

Then for example is the strange anomaly of " under the radar " ROCHDALE, with a squad of 27, 7 more to choose from than us with 23 brought in this season, 9 on free transfers and 10, yes TEN on LOAN. And there they sit in the play offs with an excellent goal difference of 16. How is that possible? How come they jelled? Yes you can knock the loanee numbers, you can say correctly they may indeed all be gone, but the club sure gets to try out a few, many like Pebble from Under 21sides ! It seems you wouldnt get bored at Rochdale

Nothing maybe to do with mediocrity ? but if nothing else it must be pretty exciting and fend off comments about low value, low entertainment and surely ups things discussion wise ! But it seems Kev, maybe the Management Group as a whole, maybe COSU all remain presumably non fans of loanees. Weve heard allegedly Kevs not a fan and yet hes got Pebble on his hands

Give your head a wobble Cricko...this is just crass clickbait.

Mediocrity FC is a club with 2000 home attendances and a single coach-load of away fans.

Mediocrity FC is a club who perhaps have sampled the EFL for a few seasons but are now back to where they historically belong.

Mediocrity FC doesn't have the largest home attendance in the league, one of the largest (albeit somewhat decrepit) stadiums in the league, and the largest away following in the league.

Mediocrity FC never took 32000 fans to Wembley.
