That moment that makes a song great

Not asking just for great songs here, but great moments in great songs. The kind of moment that makes you turn the volume up to 11, or that turns a song from four stars to five.

I'm thinking along the lines of the WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA'AM at 2:50 in Suffragette City by David Bowie

Other nominees...

1:49 in to That'll Be The Day by Buddy Holly

The gentlest of gentle touches on the cymbal at 1:40 in REM's Perfect Circle

Not quite sure it's what you're after, but this has been in my head for weeks:

Starting as a reasonably standard Low track, the urgency of the track is upped at 2:20 when Alan Spearhawk's guitar gradually builds up to 2:54 before bringing the chorus back in. 8 bars of guitar that turn a good song into a brilliant one. Low at their best.

70s rocktastic Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas - The acapella intro followed by some rockin' geetar makes me tingle!

Yeah, that's the sort of thing we're (I'm) looking for here.

Probably far too mainstream but THAT key change in Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You is right up there for me.

If I was to nominate a Whitney moment it would be about 2:58 in to this performance of Saving All My Love...

When she was on form she was truly, truly great.

No. Whitney Houston had an amazing voice and sang some of the great pop songs of the 1980s.

I'll fight you to the death over this one.
I'd agree that WH made some excellent pop music, however her ballads, particularly those 2 posted here, are total dross. I'm with MK on that score - soulless muzak.

As we're talking older stuff here, then my offering is the build up to, and then Mark Knopfler's guitar riff in Money for Nothing. Has to be up there with the best. And for those who have been on the moon for the last fifty years....

I woke last night to the sound of thunder...how far off I sat and wondered....
