Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Time for rearranging the deckchairs on the SUFC Titanic maybe ? Currie would be the obvious choice in a reshuffle whether he's been brainwashed into this current style or could get more out of this current squad is the question!
I doubt it after all Sheffield United had a pretty revolutionary style of play throughout the Club. Overlapping centre backs for starters. Can't imagine Darren being press ganged into anything.

We are 18 games into the season and so far we have 7 goal scorers at the club (Cardwell 8th) with our right back on 9 which is an absolute outlier and has really kept us from being much lower in the table.

For context:
Yeovil in 8th have 21 goals scored by 11 players
Solihull in 9th have 32 goals scored by 12 players
Altrincham in 10th have 28 goals scored by 13 players
Sutton in 11th have 26 goals scored by 10 players

These are mid table sides but they score more and spread the goals around. The question for me is are our lack of goals tactical or down to quality? I think it’s the tactics and I genuinely think some poor performers here would flourish in another side in this league that played more on the front foot. The style and the way we are playing at the moment is dire and boring to watch and I won’t be surprised to see crowds dropping off unless something changes.

Thats the question though, what needs to change to improve results? Not looking forward to Saturday and as a season ticket holder thats not a good sign. (FGR 35G from 12 players..)
Our best strikers:

Scott-Morriss 9 in 17 matches
Pepple 3 in 12
Walker 2 in 10
Bridge 1 in 18
Moncur 0 in 12
Miley 0 in 8
Husin 0 in 17
Ralph 1 in 17
Crowther 0 in 16
Taylor 0 in 17
Coker 2 in 9
Forson 1 in 13
Bonne 0 in 12

So here’s a question… if we are still struggling come the start of the January transfer window do you stick with Maher and give him a good budget to sign some players or dispense with him before the transfer window starts, appoint a new manager and give him the budget to sign his own players..

No I wouldn't...... its true maher has been handicapped since he been at Southend but not to the level we enter January sitting in the relegation zone. Gone for me I'm afraid.

Where does the budget to sack Maher come from?

Budget for new manager would need to be Maher's player budget minus cost of sacking Maher

I was talking to Ron Martin quite a few years back about sacking managers. He said no Chairman worth his salt would get into a position where sacking a manager would have a too bigger impact on the club. He said the turnover of managers is so frequent (for most clubs) it just would not make sense to give them a contract that would cost the club too dearly.

I've always said that it's unfair to judge Kev until he has had a summer window with free rein to make signings.

However I think without a change of style and formation we are going to soon be running out of time to wait for the summer window.

We are far too close to the bottom, something needs to change and quickly.

My point is, sacking a manager is an additional expenses - it's not free. So the football budget for additional players is likely to be less than what might be available for Kev - if a new manager would spend the money more wisely is an unknown

A lot has been said about Kev's tactics, but I'm not sure what he's meant to do with the talent at his disposal?
No Cardwell or Kensdale, and a bitter blow at exactly the wrong time; a Bridge too far: he's been sussed by everyone and no second string to his bow;
GSM also having a so-so period; Husin off the boil;
Miley coming back from injury; with Walker, Waldron, Coker previously missing a while.
Crowther is more and more a non-replacement for Kensdale; and you're left with the impression Bonne and Moncur were late shopping trips thanks to Senor Rat.
Pepple has promise, and Morton is OK.
I'm not sure any tactic you can think of will polish the semi-t***.
We need new players, not a new management - not yet at least.
He’s not trying to replace Messi or John Terry it’s Ole ****ing Kensdale

At the end of the day any decision on Coaching ability and continued employment will rest with COSU, and it will be for those gentlemen to decide how we go forward. The membership of that group is such that most are long term sufferers, like ourselves, so they will do what is best for the Club, or do nothing, which may also be best for the Club. For those of you that wished they hadn't bought season cards, just imagine how you would have felt if you had bought one during the dark times. Lots of us did, and we're still here, (gluttons for punishment maybe).

I hope that COSU realise that the overriding priority is results on the pitch. All the other stuff is of course important in its own right but 'sustainability' to use a somewhat vague but fashionable buzzword is meaningless if we are flirting with relegation and oblivious to its dire consequences. Looking at the present situation through the wrong end of the telescope is not the way forward.
