I would like to thank to Paul Sturrock for the amazing job he did for us. On July 1st 2010, I have fear that Southend would be the next Darlington where we get whipped 3-0 or 4-1 by someone like Barnet etc after starting pre-season with just 4 players. I am grateful to finish in mid table and even we almost on the coat tails of the play-off, we have beaten team like Wycombe, Rotherham twice and smashed team like Maccesfield, Hereford & Bradford by 4 goals, which show the ability of this team. Once we have a full pre season and the new players Sturrock want to bring in, to improve the squad, there is no reason why we can have a go at pushing for the play off.

If not for PS, I would be dreading a local derby Vs Braintree Town and watch us get beaten at Root-Hall by them in 2011/12 season!!

Sadly, with our leader at the helm, I'm inclined to agree with you.

Is the "ability of the team" best demonstrated by the smashing of Macclesfield in that game our by our other three failed attempts to beat them last season?

But this is L2 Mick and most sides in L2 are inconsistent, which is exactly why they are in L2.

If you listen to the players then they confirm it took a long time for them to get used to each other. Next year will be better, I'm certain of that.

For putting together a team that has only won 4 of the last 17 league games and hasnt
Won an away game since new years day
Has put together a team of league 1 players who clearly are lower league 2 players whose brand
Of football has lost over 3,000 fans
Finished 13 points clear of relegation. If the season had continued any longer we could have
Been in danger of going out the league. Some of the players are truly the worst
Players i have ever seen wear the blue shirt. Again i thank you for what has
Been a truly miserable season

'Captain Birdseye' you surpass yourself with every posting. Firstly I suggest you get your facts straight our last away win was on 29th January not New Years day. So you think its been a truly miserable season well I think you are in a minority of one as just about every other Southend fan thinks we have overachieved this season. A truly miserable season is the season Stockport have had.
You are quite welcome to air you few on here this is what a discussion board is all about ut you wont find too many others posters agreeing with your comments.

Enough said....
Personally I think Paul Sturrock has done a fantastic job considering he only had five players at the training ground at the beginning of the season.

How do you know I meant Blair ? I might have meant Easton.

As it happens you're right.

You may disagree with it, but there have been times he has either started or come on when he should not have done so, in my opinion. Most recently his introduction against Bradford City; an ideal opportunity to give an aspiring Asante a 20 minute run out. It looked to me like he was trying to give his son a couple of cheap goals in a match already won against demoralised opposition.

Like you, I don't rate Crawford who for me is a non-league player in the making. We need to get more support for Corr in the forward line.

Actually, you make a fair point about the Bradford City game. That was an occasion when it might have been a good idea to bring on one of the youngsters. I think he probably did want to give Blair a chance to get some confidence back after some of the barracking he'd been receiving from 'supporters'. I'm not sure that I don't rate Crawford but I don't think he's the answer at the moment.

Southend, one of the overachievers , being as high as 13th, this season according to the Football league show on saturday

The Pundit also said that he expected us to be pushing for a play off place next year

This season was always going to be a re-building season where surviving being the main objective. Personally I'm very happy with season, yes it could have been better if we didn't have so many injuries but let's remember it could have been a lot worst. Just imagine if we went out of the league, that would be terrible for the club and may even have been the end! So this season was so important and Sturruck done great as did all the squad albeit they are not most talented we have ever seen but they all did their best.

Dare I say it, but i think had we stuck with Tilly we'd probably now be in Lincoln's shoes. I loved the guy as much as anyone else but his time had run its course here (not withstanding the awful way he was treated last year of course) and his limitations have been exposed this season up there. I don't believe Tilly could have built a squad from nothing, with hardly any pre-season, and kept us mid-table. In fact he's taken a team that were comfortably mid table a couple of months back, & took them down. We needed an experienced head to steady the ship this year after the nightmare of the previous year, and what Sturrock has achieved is nothing short of miraculous in my book.

Yeah, if not for Sturrock, we would get beaten by Braintree Town at Root Hall in Conference next season, that would be the lowest point in our history! I will be watching Braintree Vs Lincoln with interest as I go to town centre for nightout with friend once a month!

Interesting re-read this thread. So many times last season PS said his players needed a pre-season. He has now had one and has continued to strengthen the squad. Look where we are now. Personally I still think we're punching above our weight but more than happy to go with the flow. So many options in midfield and a manager that is prepared to make changes early enough in the game to take effect. Still needs promotion to elevate himself alongside other managerial legends but he is not far behind that list. All this achieved without last seasons top scorer and it would have been to easy to use that as an excuse. Only 1 change I'd like to see. Harris on the bench for a game just to show him that previous achievements stand for nothing.

Your wish appears to be Luggy's command; Harris started on the bench tonight. And still scored.

Tonight's game was a measure of how far we've come under Luggy. I can't remember the last time I turned up at a ground thinking we'd win - but, frankly, tonight's win was almost embarrassingly easy. Feel quite sorry for the Bees. And our three subs tonight were Kane Ferdinand, Neil Harris and JP Kalala. That's bordering on the stunning, really. Our defence were also imperious tonight, apart from the first 10 mins when they needed to get to know the new keeper.

Biggest threat to our season now looks, I'd suggest, like the January transfer window, and whether we can hold on to Ryan Hall during it. The boy is mustard. If we keep hold of him, then our sights should be set on automatic promotion. This squad, and this manager, look capable of it. Anything less than playoffs now would be a major disappointment.

would like to hear captain birdseye view on things as they are. He (and others) were/are quite anti sturrock, not calling anyone out just be interesting to see if opinions/moods/post tilly strop out syndrome has changed.

Birdseye and his suspected alter ego got banned I think, I'd imagine they would have left on their own by now, without having anything negative to say about sturrock and the team I don't think they would be able to come up with anything to post!
