Fair enough.

But ... why did you spend it all in the first place? Surely you must have known that the money wasn't yours?

I worked for another company when it all happened. The statements didnt say where the money was coming from, so I assumed that it was from them. This is because I told Tesco's I was leaving and I also got a letter back from them to confirm this. They just didnt take me off the payroll. And that wasn't my fault, it was their error.

Even if your statements didn't show "where the money was coming from", there would have been some sort of reference indication that you would have been able to match to a receipt or a payslip, even just to discount the income received from the new company? That's the whole point of statements; to manage your money efficiently and to be able to cross-reference receipts, etc.

The statements must have shown a spurious credit IN ADDITION to the salary you received from the company you were working with at the time? You must have wondered why this additional income was being credited to your account?

I would have.

The CSA (Child Support Agency) can also make deductions via your employer. I know, I had £27,000 taken from me over 9 years. Not fun.

And to add insult to injury, my employer (then Mobil Oil) charged me £1 a month to make those deductions!

Let's go fishing,
Let's go fishing,

At the Lake,
Oh it's great,

Early in the morning,
Hope the fish aren't snoring,

Hurry don't be late,
We're fishing at the lake.

I used to operate that way but I found I was receiving nasty suprises on a very regular basis.

Internet banking makes life a lot more predictable.

im with WS on this one.. i must admit i only scan read the whole thing but as far as i can see your only cause for complaint is if they agreed to take it back in instalments then hit you with the whole lot in one go.. even then i wouldnt waste too much of your life taking on the legal department of tescos..
if your living on athe budget you appear to be on the downside, how you can not notice the extradough on the upside seems a bit remiss of you..
