I think it's just something you get as a newly promoted club.  I'm sure many of take more than a passing interest in the Premiership.  How many of you, asked about relegation candidates, would have immediately listed the three promoted sides?

They are the teams who haven't proved that they can compete at a level and any rational comparison would have to favour the teams that did stay up unless anything major has changed.  We are in the same bracket.

I'm a little surprised that I haven't heard anyone really sticking their neck out and predicting us to do ok.  We have excellent team spirit, a lot of confidence, we've improved our squad with our transfers and we've kept hold of Tilly and Eastwood.  It's their opinion.

At the end of last season, I stumbled across someone's predictions for league two and sent an e-mail asking how he could have got it so wrong.  The guy replied saying that it's hard to predict and challenged me.  I did my predictions, won some money and shoved his words down his throat.  Every time anyone writes Southend off, it only further motivates us in the same way.  I'm sure we all heard Ron Martin get excited in the heat of the moment and announce how we would be challenging next season.  No matter how realistic we are and how aware we are of the threat of relegation, we know what we can do.

How would it be damaging to get into the Prem - what a loadsa cr@p.

£25m plus two payments of £6-7m and gate reciepts increase - c'mon we'd get hammered and if we signed played on £25,000 per week we'd be in trouble, but RM is in charge.

Somebody give me an argument why it'd be back to get promotion - its not going to happen, just don't understand people's p.o.v. on this one.

Good point jon, as long as we dont go crazy and put players on big wages, i think it could do us some good.

It would do us an amazing amoutn of good. One season at that level would earn us far more money than the last 100 years put together.

The teams who suffered by going up are ones who then splashed out massive transfer fees and wages. I don't think we'd do that.

If we ever play at that level, and its a truely massive 'if', I have faith in those in charge of the club to not put at risk our long-term future by chasing the dream any further.

Me too.

Also, my gravestone wouldn't say 'sufcintheprem', it would say, 'the prophet sufcintheprem'
