Take a bow,

Let the game flow, didn't pull up petty little things and was unoticed throughout, what a breath of fresh air to what we normally get. Hats off to Mr.Renee and all 22 plus players except Gutts for making it a very entertaining game!

Sorry don't normally post but couldn't let this go.

I disagree. I thought for someone who has reffed at the level he has, he missed to many offences giving decisions the wrong way for both sides.

Fair enough, I applaud him for trying to let the game flow but I thought he was really lacking in quality for someone with such a high standing in the game.

I've never rated him when I've seen him in the Premiership, but I thought he was fantastic tonight. He might have got the odd call wrong but so will every ref as they're only human. On the whole I was extremely impressed with the way that he allowed the game to be played.

Good shout, wiggy.

You are right, no more about him, got a bit carried away, seeing a premiership referee!

Anyone that sends off Alan Shearer at St. James' Park, apparently for simply being Alan Shearer, deserves unqualified respect.

That said, the best refs are the ones that aren't noticed - excpet when they are needed to be. Uriah was just that tonight.

I agree.. Excellent performance.. Right from the start when he let a few roughish tackles go by my mate said he is really going to add to this game..A few smiles as well and has a stylish way of waving play on, which we saw plenty of.

Also agree, wish we could have a ref like this every game. A real pleasure to watch the game flow with a bit of physical contact allowed.

A first class performance it was over 15 minutes into the 1st half before he gave the first free kick of the game. I think there were only two offside decisions in the whole game.

Yep let the game flow superbly, made the correct decisions re fouls and bookings. Top stuff. Shame we have to put up with plonkers like Beeby most weeks.

A good overall performance from a good quality ref. Nice to see a game where the ref wasnt the main talking point.

Missed a few things I thought but generally spot on.

Good thing about Rennie was that he used a little bit of common sense.

There was a challenge that Maher made in the first half that most refs would of given a card for, but Rennie to his credit gave Maher a stern warning and that was the end of it.

And missed a blatant handball by Francis in the first half, although they did score shortly after anyway.

I thought Mr. Rennie had a cracking game - you didn't notice him, you just saw the football, for large parts of the game. That means he was doing his job brilliantly, IMHO.

Glad someone mentioned that

It isoften the way that when you watch a Premiership match on the TV the ref looks awful. However, when they referee one of our games, and you see them live, you see why they ref in the Premiership. I would give Mr Rennie 8/10 for last night. My only quibble would be that I though it was "foot-up" on Freddy prior to their second shambolic goal.

There is one exception to this rule. I can't remember his name but he is from Suffolk.

I don't think our "penalty" shout was that valid. The defender didn't look like he had much choice in the matter.

As Matt said, they had a clearer shout in the first half, although they scored shortly afterwards anyway.

On penalty shouts like that you have to go on player reaction and they weren't that animated.

Unlike the bloke sitting behind me, I thought Rennie had a brilliant game. I said after 5 minutes that Norwich would win the game 3-2 (I was so happy to be wrong!!) because they looked like they'd come to attack and it was going to be a very open game. Whether Rennie judged that or he's always like that I don't know, but he seemed determined to let the game flow and play advantage wherever he could. Even Gower's booking he seemed apologetic about.

Are you Mr Smith FB?

I thought he was generally excellent. His refereeing technique is superb, with very clear signals and seemed to have a good rapport with the players, which was reflected in the effectiveness of the stern warning he gave Maher. Other refs may have whopped out he yellow, provoking a red mist from Maher.

He generally let play flow very well too, with one howling exception - Hooper was clean through with a clear, un-challenged shot on goal when he blew for a free kick at the top of their area in the second half. Fortunately Hammell let him off the hook with a stunning free-kick.

All refs miss things, it's more about how you deal with it. He sold his decisions well by being firm and authoritative with the players when he needed to be, and letting the game flow as much as possible.

My perspective on this is drawn from being a qualified hockey umpire, where the issues are generally the same, but without the 11,000 people watching!
