Easily The Clash.

London Calling is amongst the greatest albums of all time. From the most iconic album covers (the most famous photo in rock 'n' roll?) and the opening riffs of the ominous, almost apocalyptic punk of the title track, through to the rousing Train in Vain, combining a mixture of punk, ska and reggae on the way, its simply a fantastic album. Spanish bombs is one of my favourite all time tracks. You've then got tracks like Lost in the Supermarket ("I'm all lost in the supermarket/ I can no longer shop happily/ came here for a special offer/guaranteed personality") the rousing Death or Glory etc etc etc.

Far from being a one-hit wonder, you've got the classic 'Should I stay or should I go?' and 'Rock the Casbah' from Comabt Rock, 'White Riot' from the Clash plus 'Give 'Em Enough Rope' as people have already pointed out.

Great band.

Its hard one to call, but as im a "mod" im going with The Who!

Quadrophenia swings it for me

Get on those mod forums and see if the Who were a mod band .......

Quadrophenia was a Rock album about a Mod.

That Said I would be in full agreement with you if you weren't voting against My Boys

I would say The Who have stood the test of time better. The two surviving founders Roger Daltrey & Pete Townshend are still touring today.

They produced seminal albums such as Tommy & Quadrophenia, and as Cricko kindly pointed Who's Next, plus a great live album Live at Leeds.

Keith Moon in my view was one of the best drummers ever, and encapsulated the live hard die young attitude. John "The Ox" Entwhistle a top bass man, whose sound was described on Quadrophenia as being like a bleeding VC10.:D He to died in true rock & roll fashion, a nose full of coke, a belly full of brandy and a Vegas prossie on the side.

I have to agree with Firestorm this is Chelsea v Arsenal.

So fellow Zoners vote for The Who.

Cheers Harry

London Calling, The Clash and Give em Enough Rope were also seminal Albums

London Calling 16th in the top 100 Albums of All time (here : http://www.albumvote.co.uk/files/albums.shtml )
Whos next 37th !!
The Clash 56th

The 1993 NME poll had the First three Clash Albums in the top 100 all time albums above (at 99) the Only Who entry (Who's next)

Topper Headon was the best Drummer from 1976-1985 who , being better than Moon hasn't managed to die yet has had a nose full of coke, a belly full of brandy combined with an arm full of Heroin.
Moon was felt to be replaceable by the who, Headon's inability to go on (due to the drugs etc) led to the Clash calling it a day.

Live on Broadway is as good a live album as Live at leeds and its a double.

After a break to get his Art exhibited Simenon is still touring (With Damon Alburns new band) but (unlike the Who) is still writing new material and does not need to rehash the old stuff
Jones is still producing, writing and giving drugs to Pete Doherty, thus proving that not only were they a better musical act than the Who, but they have ability to develop new talent in the Music Industry (Libertines, Baby Shambles Big Audio Dynamite)

Fellow Zoners, your vote is a matter of opinion, so use it wisely, Either an average RnB band who latched onto a youth culture until it served its purpose or a ground breaking Dynamic outfit who forged a youth culture and changed peoples perceptions of how Rock and Roll could sound for several generations

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you The Clash !!!

"White riot,i wanna riot" Christ takes me back to my old skinhead days.

Clash all the way, couldn't stand those poncy mods anyway!

Looks like I've lost out on this one fair play Firestorm in your advocacy for The Clash.

I think this should have at least been a semi final, in view of the other mismatches.:(

Thank you very much CS, a very tight contest, which is not quite over yet BTW, debated in an excellent manner I must add.
I agree, worthy of a semi at least.

All the years I have known you and I didn't know you were such a big Who fan, given your previous disposition I would have thought that Feeder were more your sort of band........

Always loved The Who from an early age.

To be fair they were my second choice on this as I would have gone for The Stones, but Ken got in first.

What's the point of having rock idols who are younger than you?:D

I got into the Clash when I was comparatively old for "idolising" bands (and not from the start of their career either) at a low point of my early life (failed Uni, out of work, going nowhere) and was generally mopeing around listening to cr*p music and depressing myself even further, then a mate played me the first Album and it was like a kick up the backside and a breath of fresh air at the same time. Sounds corny I know but it really got me going again....funny how some music can effect you.

it was a tight call between the Clash and the Jam but MK got there first so I went with what was my first thought
