Will Southend Council really care what a load of Swansea and Bury fans think? Would it not be more sensible if ONLY people from Southend signed this?

Completely disagree mate, the amount of Swans signatures on there won't reduce the number of Shrimpers fans entries will it!! Having an extra hundred or so on the petition can only be great news for us, regardless of who they are from.

And when you think about it they are from FOOTBALL fans and I don't think anyone would like to see any club go out of business in the future. The very fact that Swansea have moved into a nice new stadium recently and are considered a bigger club now should be recognised by the council. If Swansea's move to the Liberty was considered by their supporters to be anything other than a positive thing then they wouldn't have signed the petition. The council should look at these particular signatures too as a sign of the effect a new stadium has on a club.

*EDIT* - just had a look at some of the numerous signatures from Jacks fans and some of them have put in their comments "it's worked wonders for Swansea" and "look what a new stadium's done for us" - comments like this can only help if the council read them. I expected a good response from the Jacks lads as they are (as proved beyond any doubt in April) fantastic football supporters but the response they've actually made is unbelievable!!!

Well, he's entitled to make his opinion known but what riles me is that he never backs up his accusations with any evidence - he's obviously gets that particular characteristic from someone who shall remain nameless (choo, choo) but, I remember clearly, warned on the onset of doom and gloom back in 2001 with accusations of fraud, unmanageable debt and real bad eggs running the football club which would lead SUFC ultimately to the scrapheap within a couple of years - and not just the non-league scrapheap. Well, five years on, the future of Southend United Football Club has never looked brighter; that's not based on the views of someone who's doffed "rose-tinted glasses" but real undoubted evidence: we're in the Football League Championship averaging some 9,000 a game, we've got one of the brightest young strikers in the country playing for us, we've got our financial burden under some sort of control (don't agree? see the last set of accounts), the club isn't haemorrhaging cash in all directions, and now we're looking (finally) at a real chance to take the club into the 21st Century with a new stadium complex. Now if that isn't progress than I don't know what is. But I DO know that it's not all doom and gloom. Have your say CSJ (although you rightly can't at the moment) but at least back up your claims ...

But the petition is a petition of people who support the stadium, so in this case, he is an utter pillock for signing it.

*sigh*

Oh, agreed! He's an utter plonker for signing it and he only makes himself look thoroughly stupid ...

Sadly it is because people sign ten times that petitions aren't taken much notice of. I hope that what you actually meant was that it was ten different members of your family signing

Letters are far more effective.

If you do want to get more names to this, I'd suggest asking Brighton. Whilst they might not be everyone's favourite club the vast majority of their fans know the importance of this issue to a club's future and I'm sure will support it.
