Nothing will be guaranteed at the tribunal, they will look at his playing career and potential and any bids tabled,if QPR actually bid your figure then I agree with you that Ron will receive a nice payment.
They will look at offers made and already turned down so we will not lose out at all if we retain Dan to the end of his contract. It's a totally different scenario to others whose contracts have been run out because of his age.

FourFourTwo have included him in "8 Football League players that Premier League teams should take a punt on in January". They claim that West Ham, Everton and Swansea are monitoring him.

Enjoyed the video and four four two is a well respected publication, not sure they are saying West Ham, Everton and Swansea are monitoring him though, reads to me like these clubs could do well looking at him as a long term goalkeeping option like Stoke bringing in young Butland.

I agree, Howard is old now, Fabianski isn't the greatest and Adrian is a class keeper but they may think like Stoke did. Stoke knew Begovic would leave eventually and got Butland in as long term replacement. Spammers may want to consider doing the same incase a top club goes in for Adrian.
It's weird though, I was actually thinking this morning that Everton would be a great option, it's the type of player Martinez would buy and nurture. And like I say, Howard is on his last legs.

Please explain how I have "proved my own point wrong"?. I merely said his heart doesn't seem to be in it like before as well as the Colchester strikers being poor and their team as a whole. I don't think he wants to be at Southend anymore and wanted to go to QPR which was blocked, this clearly made him a bit unhappy due to the fact he had been a good keeper for us over the years and perhaps deserved his break.

We have an England under 20 keeper who can step into his shoes, with the money from Bentley we can perhaps buy a decent striker and another player simple. Your point about playing well and getting a chance to move to a better club, well he did just that and his opportunity was not taken up by the club was it?.

You said that he was playing against poor striker's at Colchester that is why they didnt score but in league 2 he was playing against poorer strikers every week than league 1.

I don't think it's clear he doesn't want to be here. To make it clear he could of downed tools as other players have done when apparently wanting out. He has done nothing of the sort.

Surely playing well in a higher league takes more reward than in a lower. That's why it is important he continues to try his best and continue doing well for us.

Do you seriously, in your wildest dreams, believe that Bentley is ready to play top flight football for any club and that the clubs you list above would even consider him as first choice?

I'm sorry he made it perfectly clear in the Echo and by refusing to sign a new contract.

Just because he hasn't downed tools, doesn't mean squat and you don't get that many players that do, after all they are still being paid!!

Im sorry I fail to see the part where I said he would start for any of them teams. I even said the word 'nurture' in relation to going to Everton and used the example of Butland being a 'long term replacement'. I was simply stating the reasons why the club's mentioned in the fourfourtwo might want him.

In addition, why shouldn't a fan of SUFC think one of their youth products could go and play at the highest level. It's what football is all about. It bewilders me, some fans come across like they want him to fail because it proves their judgment of him right. It's the proudest moment for a lower league fan to say, you see that England player, he came through our ranks. (This last paragraph isn't aimed at you rlb999, just speaking in a general context)

Needs to concentrate on his own form, which less face it has been well below standard of late, after making a number of poor errors. We all know in reality he will leave in this transfer window or st the end of the season. For various reasons he is undropable by PB and in my opinion should of been sold at the start of the season and this long drawn out affair has inevitably lead to a drop in form/standards.

No offence taken! It bewilders me me that as soon as we get a decent youngster, people genuinely feel he can go all the way. I'm all for backing our own players but whilst I don't dispute the potential is there with Dan, I think he needs to raise his game to even be a regular in the Championship - there's too much inconsistency there and there's shed loads of other keepers around. Getting a cheap one from abroad doesn't cost £1.25m or whatever Shrimperzone has decided he's worth. That's why he needs to pull his finger out and show us all how good he really can be. As others have correctly said, he's done things in recent games that Paul Smith would have been crucified for.

No I agree, over hype in a general term can become a ridiculous thing but i think the exception with Bentley is that he is the first top potential player we have seen in a long long time. A few mistakes doesn't change the fact he has been top drawer since he has become our number one. But again I agree with you in regards to there being many keepers around and people shouldn't get blinded with the idea that Dan is the only one who has potential. You only have to look at Ingram of Wycombe, who some may have said was the League 2 keeper of the year last year instead of Bentley. As I said on an earlier post, Smithies is better than him at the moment and there are many others who are too. I guess all you can say is, Bentley will be as good as he is willing to be. He has everything that Joe Hart had at this stage, it's now up to him to fulfill all of his undoubted talent.

Depends who it is. I've only ever said that about 2 players, Dan being the second. The first was Stan Collymore. So so far I've been proved right every time I've said it! I genuinely believe DB has the potential to play for England. That doesn't mean he's the finished article yet, but as a 22 year old I see plenty to tell me he can make it in the future.

Big Sam was on talksport his morning, said he is looking to bring in 2 experienced players in January, guess that rules out Bentley at the moment.......................

I can see Bentley being linked if Sunderland are relegated but if they stay up they wont throw Bentley into a struggling premier team, that's suicide for his career so early on

I've only ever said it about 1 player, and you've named him - it couldn't have been any more obvious with Collymore. Still don't understand why Palace loaned him to us, then even when he'd shown he could do it STILL agreed to sell him for £175k.

A definite case of their loss, our gain, and how.

Bentley is good how i am not sure if he moves to a big club he will have to wait for his chance and it may not come but he will need to move ted smith will i think be ok
