Student Jobs and jobs you got knocked from as a student.

the worst job i ever had was working for a travel agents.. and have been in my current job just over 2 years.. they're the only 2 i've ever had..

I worked in the Crooked Billet for a while and it was my pleasure to serve Scott Forbes.

Oh my god. Where is this pub you speak of? Does Forbsey still drink there? What did he buy YB?

Why in all the years I have know you have you never mentioned this?

Old Leigh. It was only once. But you may get lucky on a nice sunny summer day.

At the risk of exciting you too much, Steve Clark sometimes drinks in one of my locals up here. Haven't seen him for ages though.

Thanks - Thinking of selling up and moving to old Leigh.

My holiday jobs were...

Paperboy

Office admin, construction site (Barker's Building, Kensington, W8)
General labourer, construction site (ditto)
"Floorbox king", construction site (I ended up planning and locating the floorboxes - with all the power, phone and ethernet cables - so that the interior design and M&E drawings co-ordinated, again at Kensington, W8)

"Floorbox king" and internal layouts, construction site (same job, but this time they left me to plan the desk layouts, at the Express & Echo, Exeter, Devon)

PABX routing, Express & Echo - their own comms guy was such a muppet, I ended up linking each of the floorboxes to the central PABX so that the phones worked.

English teacher, Callan School of English, Oxford Street. That was my main student job - every summer holiday, from 1st year (1994) until I started pupillage (1997), I taught English at a school on Oxford Street.

The pay was good (£7.50/hr), the work was interesting, I got lots of hours, I had some fit students, I became good mates with one of the students, the craic in the staff-room wasn't bad, it was 30 minutes' walk from my bedsit to the school, and I would clear £2.5-£3K over the course of the summer vac - enough to clear my debt every year, and then give me enough to have a wee holiday somewhere in September before starting back at Uni.

Pretty much the perfect student job, really.

:D

Claim to shame? As a 16 year-old, going to Macdonalds for a job. The guy said "are you here about the job?", to which I replied "Yes, I am, actually." So they gave me my uniform, and I flipped patties for half an hour, when the manager then came in and said "oh, you're not who we thought you were... sorry, we haven't got a job for you."

And with that, I was given a free cheeseburger and told to p*ss off. The shame, the shame...

I used to work in a salad packing factory. It is was cold, and wet whilst I was at King Alfred's College, Winchester.

Then I was a Door Man whilst at Portsmouth Uni. That was certainly fun!!!

i was once offered a job at peter pans. ill never know if i would have been any good at it cause as soon as they told me i couldnt wear green and it wasnt anything like spoils, i never turned up

I had all sorts of jobs in high school and college, but my favorite was at a restaurant while I was college. I was mainly a delivery driver and I made good money (well, good money for a student) while just driving around listening to music. There were also other perks to the job, like delivering to the bouncers at strip clubs and being encouraged to stick around for a bit, and delivering to girls who had been out and were disappointed to have not met anyone at the bars and were definitely looking for some, um, "company" before getting some sleep. Although I was never able to capitalize on those opportunities while on the clock, I was often calling them as soon as my shift was over.

I was only at Uni a year, but as I was studying Pharmacy I spent the Holidays (Including the one straight after my A Levels) in the dispensary at Boots the Chemist.
That was until the day they found out I had failed when I was given 2 weeks notice and left stacking Tampons and Nappies..
