I rated him at the time. But Trevor Roberts ( R.I.P ), Mervyn Cawston ( your probably to young to remember them?), and Paul ( Sammy) Sansome, IMO all edged him.
John only played 6 games .And John. Burridge...
Merv is my favourite
The best Loan signings in my book (excluding the technicality of Freddy being on loan first as it was quicker..) in no particular order
Burridge, Hunter, Butters, Asombalonga , Federici
Statistically I think its Lee Chapman....
So, apart from McQueen, Woodrow, Assombalonga, Dervitte. Sokolik and Egan, the rest were not very good.

A lot of the recent loan signings haven't had a chance. Brown loved getting them in but didn't have the balls to play them. My guess is Chris will give them a chance.
Stan was originally a loan I think.
Dorian Dervite and Richard Jobson were outstanding loanees.
I hope our expected new signing from Spurs is as good or better than McQueen, Woodrow, Assombalonga, Dervitte, Sokolik, Egan, Ben Reeves, Adam Federici, The Murphy brothers, John Burridge, Kiernan, Hendrie, Hal Robson-Kanu, Daniels, Lund, Kiernan, Hendrie, Pigott, Cassidy, Cam Belford, Andy Woodman, Stephen Kelly and not forgetting the viaducts obviously. Everyone happy now?
Adam Federici (spelt wrong ?) Best keeper ive ever seen in a southend shirt
Did we have both Murphys ? I thought it was one and Loza
Unless you are including Brian Barry Murphy ?
I think in those days there were different signing deadlines to be able to play, players often signed on loan late Friday only to Sign permanently on the Monday
As for Epic Loan signings - Steve Anthrobus signed on Loan for us on the Friday, recalled almost immediately and then Sold to Wimbledon the next day.
At least Chapman had the decency to stay for the weekend and actually play...
