Still Wanna buy some shares ???

weststander

Manager
The deadline for the share offer has been extended.......

Over 1000 people have already purchased, someone bought £20k worth !!!

I wonder if it didnt go as well as Ron anticipated or if he just wants to try and get a few more quid out of us ???

Great news. The deadline was the day before payday and I was very, very skint this month. I can get some now.

Clearly Ron’s disappointed and so am I to be honest with the take up

Especially the brochure saying we have over 60,000 Supporters on Southend United data base records

With only 1000 fans buying shares works out to be about 1.5% of the fan base… very poor lets be honest

I was expecting fans jump at the chance to own a part of their club they love

If we get the go ahead for the New Stadium, with all the developments etc and I have a funny feeling the club knows something here a few more fans and want to help the club out to build its future..

Just shows how hard it is to get business and outside investers to invest into a small club like ours if the fans don’t even want to !!

Not everyone has got money lying around if I was in a better position myself (I'm signed of work at the moment) I would have bought some.

Also I think people realise that they wont see that money again.

is there an email address i can request a pack from? im stuck on a call at work and cant phone through.

thanks in advance

You don't measure the fan base by the "database records" of the club. Especially, as by your calculations, no more than 10% go to games anyway.
The database will include:

Many, many duplicate entries
Many people who have moved away
A number of deceased entries
Above all, it will contain loads of people who went to our LDV finals and hadn't been before and haven't been since

These are not the sort of people who are going to donate their spare cash to the club. Especially not to a club which could be struggling if the planning permission decision is perversely negative. Is it co-incidence the new closing date is 2 days before D day?

If 1,000 have bought shares that's more like 15% and pretty reasonable in my opinion, under the circumstances.

Personally I wouldnt view the database as the actual fanbase, (though potentially it could be).
Selling shares to 1,000 fans isnt that great (albeit we dont know how many each one bought).
I would have expected at least twice that amount, but havent worked out in my mind what is our true fanbase at present, the 7-800 who go to Roots hall every home game is probably not a bad guide though.

To be fair I would imagine that the SUFC marketing team realised that the whole of the database wasnt going to invest directly in shares, however it was a wonderful opportunity to send 60,000 registered football fans a nice shiny brochure raising the profile of the club.

I invest enough thanks, seaso x2 every year, my son has to have home and away shirts of course, all the other bits you pick up in the club shop, put this together for the many years I been doing it and I feel I have already ******* a fair few quid on the club, worth every penny by the way

The amount who have subscribed has surprised me tbh. I honestly thought it would be at least double the 1000 or so quoted. I know we've applied for three lots of minimum blocks in my family, so presumably that means we should definitely have our allocations. In this day and age £120 isn't exactly a huge sum of money is it? Not when you consider how much people spend down the pub over a weekend, going out for a good meal or going to see a film or show.

Some fans may have already been shareholders and do not wish to increase their investment in the club.

I'm an existing shareholder and I bought some for my boy - but I didn't (and wouldn't have) bought more for myself

I guarantee we have more than 800 :)

As you say (or meant to) we get 6-8000 at a home match and its those regular supporters that would be interested . To have 1000 of them taking up the option isnt that bad.

Our actual fan base is a lot bigger of course, for example I have 4 or 5 mates who support southend but dont go to that many matches etc but are part of the fanbase. They wouldnt even consider buying shares though.

The "fanbase" of 60,000 would include my wife as she once went to the ticket office for me, and my son who although a season ticket holder is below share-buying age. Both play their part in the support for the club, but would not buy shares for different reasons. Both were happy for me to do so, though!

hmm...

60,000 got that pack, costing at the very least £2 to print, pack and send I'd have thought.

1,000 subscribe, so 59,000 get a reminder, costing say 50p.

Total cost £119,500.

Now, 1,000 have subscribed, most at minimum £120. do the maths!!!
