Question Stadium update please!

How was the Seaway car park worth just £1?
Of course it wasn't, who lost out on that deal? Tax payers?
What incentives were there for the council to sign off and sell at that price?

Have you seen the plans for the Queensway Ghetto, which is about phase 4 of the "lets **** up the town and make loads of money" project.

Unfortunately, Southend council, have a fifty year track record of destroying anything and everything that made the town the attraction that it was. For a town our size, the amenities or lack of, are a disgrace. When I look back at many of their decisions, the things they passed and those refused, they display either the vision of Stevie Wonder or have had more brown envelopes than a Redknapp/Bond recycling bin.

Don't you mean plenty of scope for negativity?

If you had looked at an earlier post in this thread you would of seen i said "it all sounds very positive now" These forums are for debate, hence me raising some issues for that very reason.

I agree but that has nothing to do with FF and RH. Plus the Council will still take a substantial fee in ground rent per year for the Seaway.

There is no point in spending £500m on the Ghetto....If you just put the same wrong'uns back in the new flats. Which is why we should have the stadium there and make it the FF Ghetto. With a parade of take away shops, 24hr medical centre and an off licence with plenty 24hr of strong lager and cider.

Ron could just extend his blue wall around the whole thing and the Town centre could be saved

I do wonder if the Seaway, which overlapped with FF plans, was because Southend council wanted Martin's plans to be this way all along.

And for that matter it is only about five minutes drive to London Southend Airport from FF, so it could also be an alternative to the Holiday Inn for travellers.

That's a very good point. A second hotel is planned for the Airport site, but a third at FF would definitely be used by passengers I would have thought, especially with the lack of early trains for the first flights each morning.

Yes I agree. I did state that on here on one of the many threads. Had there already been a cinema at FF then they could never have one at the Seaway.

The speed in which they rushed it through was a red flag to us all but I spoke to a well known councillor when it was first announced and I just didn't trust what he was saying. he wasn't even convinced of his own story.....For what its worth when I spoke to Ron amongst a small group he came across completely honest......About the current FF plans before anyone spits their coffee over their laptop

Would be even be more attractive if they council did their proposed plan on Warners Bridge. That would make an easy run via temple farm industrial estate and help solve the match day traffic problem.

Sorry if you’ve a job there , air travel pollutes , about time we all woke up to the damage we’re doing to the planet and fellow humans . Didn’t think I would ever think that way

Air travel pollutes, driving your car pollutes, factories pollute etc etc. But picking just on airports is unfair! Like most other industries aviation is looking into ways of improving the air quality. More fuel efficient aircraft that produce less pollution. Even down to the ground power units rather than being the diesel destroyers they were are now electric. All vehicles on airports are either electric or hybrid. Southend back in its peak in the past with the aircraft it had the Cavair’s etc probably produced more pollution back then than it does now.

You may hope that the aviation industry crashes, but working in it and relying on it for the support of my family and my livelihood I hope it comes back stronger than ever.

Shame that last paragraph didn’t apply to miners, steel workers many years ago
Still you reap what you sow in years to come

Does make you wonder just how much time and money has been wasted on the last plans .Think Ron really was forced into the corner by both the council and the financial mess of the last 12 months.
No tree lined Avenue and fans plaza but a faceless council ghetto .....can't wait to see the plans.....hope they're better than they sound

I don't think there will be much change other than the industrial becomes houses.

The fans walkway and concourse will hopefully remain the same.

Just for comparison, Rotherham's stadium has less capacity than RH at 12000 and looks lovely. Doncaster play at the Keepmoat which is 15000 and for me a perfect size.

Ron's dream is to be the size of the Keepmoat when we open without the main stand and, when we reach 21000, we will have a stadium the same size as premier league clubs...

I really think the plans need to be realistic. 15,000 with safe standing behind one goal for home fans (potentially the new W block) and some unique features that make it stand out and not like those God awful community stadiums Colchester and Chesterfield play at!

personally prefer the housing thing ,, homes for people and a far more secure revenue stream ..

and a nice new stadium ,,, which is a shame cos i love Roots Hall

I'm not aware of these proposals, can you provide a link please?

Also, there doesn't seem to be any public footpaths linking Southend Airport station, via the rugby club through to Temple Farm. That's a bit of a shame as it's probably only about a 20 minute walk from there to the northern part of the ground

It is just a 15 or 20 minutes walk, the footpath goes off the side of Warner’s Bridge and along the rugby and hockey pitches out onto the industrial estate. The way is poor in places and unlit but would not take too much to make better.

If I was the planning officer considering the application (which I used to be many years ago, but not in this area), I'd definitely be sticking this on as a condition to the planning consent - a proper tarmacced and lit footpath link through to Warner's Bridge, paid for by the developer.

I look forward to the final stadium plans and news of how the club will be set up financially once the move is completed. My fear is that we could swop one nightmare scenario for another, with the only change being that Ron has finally made his retirement millions. In an ideal world I would like to see the new ground owned by the club, with no debt, and new owner/s to take the club forward.
