Don't see why away fans aren't allowed in, this is League Two and it's 2014. There are hardly likely to be any teams that bring enough fans to be an issue.

I used to drink with away fans in the Spread. Whilst it's always been a home pub, you'd get a handful of away fans in and you got to gauge their expectations before the match and get their views after the game. I always enjoyed the "your no.7 looked a handful" type chats which gave a different perspective on the game.

However for the last decade or so, instead of using common sense they enforce an "us" and "them" mentality by segregating fans. I understand there are games when reluctantly this might be a sensible precaution, but we don't need to live in fear of Accrington or Morecambe's crew taking the Spread and running amok like the infamous Colchester Carnage Bridage.

Mind you we wouldn't have had many of these in recent years.

It was justed a thought perhaps the new bloke might allow it

Again I dont think the police will allow it the current rules on matchdays were brokered when we went into the championship.

It will be renegotiating

Also pool table is being reclothed - new smoking shelter and beer garden tidy up

Only time i can recall a mass brawl in there, was v Watford 1st game of either 1976-77 or 1977-78 season. They came in the left hand side bar, and within moments stools, chairs and whatever were being thrown like an old wild west saloon 'tear-up'. Remember the landlord in the early 70's had black curly hair and large mutton chop sideburns!.

As True Blue says, all the restrictions, such as plastic glasses in the 2 hours before KO, darts taken behind bar at least 1 hour before KO, pool table covered up and cues and balls removed behind bar, segregated pubs for home and away fans and doormen on the doors are imposed as licence conditions of all the pubs surrounding the ground. Therefore if the new manager did want to change any of those then he will need to win over the relevant authorities and demonstrate that any risks will not be increased.

As previously stated, these restrictions were imposed years ago when Phil and Kim were running the pub. Personally I think that, as we are in the lower league, these rules should be relaxed.

However there has been grief in the past when one Southend fan smashed a glass over the head of another home fan so it doesn't need away fans in the pub for trouble to start --- we can manage that on our own.

Col U once tried to get in the Public Bar of the Spread to have a pop. The door is so small..they came in one at a time!!
Country folk! :nope:

I know its been awhile since I last attended a home game but I dont recal any of the pubs having segregation? Plus the Spread dont allow away fans (unless they arrive mega early and not in colours)

I also believe the Spread being the only pub who serve out of Plastics

As Sir Kenneth righttly says these regs were brought in during Phil & Kim's reign, they weren't completely impossed upon them however I seem to recall if they hadn't accpeted the recomendations then if any trouble was to break out the response by the authorities may have been handled differrently, as in we'll get there when we can be bothered.
