I see Eddie Stobart has bought Southend Airport , thats the new ground sponser sorted then.. Stobart Stadium

If they could get Ryanair flights from Toulouse to Southend, you could even see me more often than once in a blue moon!

Not going to happen! Even when the Runway is extended it still won't be long enough for a fully laiden 180 passenger Ryanair 737-800 to take off. You might be lucky and get an easyjet flight out to there.

I can try and have a word with him and see what he thinks about it. Because no doubt I will have to meet William Stobart at some point being the new owner and all.

Stobart sponsor Carlisle.

That hasn't stopped companies from sponsoring two clubs before. Chelsea and Arsenal were both sponsored by Fly Emirates. Maybe we could be sponsored by one of the other parts of the Stobart Group. Like his aviation company Stobart Air.

Ask him if when on long car journeys....does he play "count the Eddie Stobart lorry" game!!!

Why have they bought it? Simple investment?

Stobart already own Carlisle airport and he has alot of contact in the business and they have started to get into aviation. He is using Carlisle as a freight hub, so to have a passenger airport on the other end of the country will do him favours. He can use Southend Airport for freight and passenger flights. Killing two birds with one stone!!

Thanks, in fact easyjet would be just the ticket! They are the only ones (apart from BA Air France), that fly out of Toulouse. With Ryanair, I have to bugger about going to Carcassonne, Pau or Perpingnan.

Well I will keep you informed of any companies that come in and will be doing flights to and from anywhere in France.

The reason for that is so all of Glasgow drink the stuff, sponsor one team and sales drop 50% and a certain Mr Carling would be on 80000 people's death list.

I know mate, although they all secretly drink Tennants anyway.

Are there any other sponsors that sponsor more then one club???

sorry to be a bit technical, Ricey, but on a short flight, say to Toulouse, then surely a 737-800 will not need be filled to the brim with aviation fuel, meaning less wight and therefore less required take-off distance.

For a 737-700, the absolute minimum is about 3400 feet, and the maximum is well beyond 15,000 feet.

The exact length required depends on the weight of the aircraft at take-off, the exact model of the 737, the altitude of the airport, the air temperature, and other factors.

How long is the runway Ricey??

I was also wondering why Ricey said that such flights would not be possible when, in the 80's I remember flying to Malta from Southend airport. That was prior to runway extension and when - I would imagine - aircraft technology would have required a longer take-off distance (or at least the same).

Was that before Vic Jobson sold off the final 200 metres of the runway and had a load of flats built though?
