Spoke to Tilly today...

He was at Garons park for the cricket and he very generously spoke with me for about 20 minutes. What a decent, honest chap he is.

I can therefore pass on the following, straight from the horses mouth, so to speak;

1) He is concerned the size of the squad is too small but is waiting for the right player(s) and will not just buy anyone. Some of the wages players are asking for is silly and he will not do it. He wants players who want to play for the club, not for the money

2) He does not read any of the websites

3) We will NOT be signing Joksic

4) Spinner will be out for 4 weeks

5) He thinks this season will be very, very tough and would be "absolutely delighted" if we finish mid-table

6) He is impressed with the job Ron Martin is doing and believes the club is on a decent upwards path and could be seriously contending for promotion to the Championship within 5 years

7) The Goat is a week and a half away from full fitness

8) Jay is a couple of weeks away from full fitness

Pity "The Beast" aint going to be signing. Leeboy wont be happy. Any reason or not?

Tilly said he was "nowhere near good enough" for league one. I said that he looked pretty good against Millwall and Tilly commented that Millwall were atrocious. Apparently against Great Wakering his lack of pace and positioning "frightened the life" out of him.

General - likewise. Yeah, pretty friendly lot. It was also good to meet Leeboy, Bob Cratchitt, Matt the Shrimp, W4Shrimper, Super shrimper (I think), GNH, Dave Cusaks nose, Napster (cheers for the drink) and I'm sure there were others so if I've missed you out, sorry!

Forgot to mention about him yesterday. I was in the ground pretty early and Woodards was in the tunnel looking out on to the pitch just before the players came out to warm up. Bit unusual to have a trialist milling about pitchside isn't it? Unless......

So how come he came out and said he wanted to sign him and let Jozic actually go back to Germany to collect some things? Seems a bit strange that seemingly he's ruled him out because of one supposed dodgy performance that it seems the fans that were there didn't pick up on. Seems like there's more to it myself.

I got the impression we weren't going to sign ANY of the triallists.

Didn't mention KG at all... I had forgotten about him actually...

However, another point he made (that I also mentioned to Leeboy yesterday) was that of our 18 players, all of them are first team quality.

In the past of course we have had squads of about 23 with 10 squad players.

There were several comments he made about individual players that I'm not going to repeat on here, as that isn't fair, but there was nothing we don't know already really.

I think he's got a good point about first teamers. I'm unconvinced about Lawson but this stems from hardly having seen him play. Didn't look entirely comfortable on Saturday but it was a difficult game to come in to and a fairly difficult time to make an impression.

Of the others, I'd be pretty happy with any of them in the first team.

We do have a very good first team squad, granted. Now Spinner's out though, our defence looks decidedly thin on the ground.... Hunt's a capable enough replacement but I don't think he's suited to centre half.

As for Jozic, if Tilly doesn't want to sign him then I trust his judgement. Didn't seem THAT bad against Great Wakering though...!
