Breaking News Spinners Testimonial

I'm surprised Derby was chosen. Couldn't the opponents have been Leicester, where Spinner achieved great things as a player?

It would be no problem just having one stand open for fans of both clubs to attend the game and sit side by side as we proved last Saturday - last Saturday's game showed it was only a few people from a company that had no links to Leicester who caused the problems in the East Stand, and there were no problems from any other Leicester fans, who were impeccably behaved throughout. There would be no problems with any of the nasty Southend thugs attending the game either because by then Mr King would have given the Southend fans who had fought each other lifetime banning orders.

For a bit of halftime entertainment, we could have fans of each club engaging in friendly games of tiddlywinks with the opposing fans sitting next to them? The fans could even swap shirts to show the good-natured spirit between them.

Spinner is a Southend legend and its a great charity cause so of course I'm going but we really must do something for Kevin Maher.A question, how many players in the whole of the football league/premiership have been with their clubs 10 years? Barely a handful I suggest.Testimonial for Kev come on Southend.

I'd suggest Spinner did more in his six years than Maher did in ten, but I expect I'd be in the minority...

More importantly, was I the only one surprised by this:

A percent of proceeds from the match will be benefiting local children's hospice Little Havens.

More importantly, was I the only one surprised by this:

Not sure by what way you mean surprised, that he's sharing the proceeds from his testimonial or that that is his chosen charity? Neither would surprise me, a family man who has a whole new career path mapped out. I think it'd be good if the Zone's links with Little Havens could be conveyed to him somehow.

I think a lot of players donate some or all of their testomonial earnings to charity these days and good on them.

Would like to go but don't think I will be able to because of work, last one i went to was Frankie Banks which was a good laugh.

I agree Kev Maher should definately get something done, he was captain over one of our best periods.

It was more the amount.

i think we need to start facebook groups the lot for this one. he never got the send off he deserved against southampton.

i'll be there and hope very much to see more than one stand open. come on everyone.

To be fair it must cost Spinner & family a fair few AU$ to get here for the game and stay a few days. Maybe this is the reason it's not 100%.

I think expenses are deducted anyway, but my point was more that a percent is one percent. He'll be donating a certain percentage.

Smiffy....is this not an opportunity to let the home fans in the north bank if there is sufficient numbers which their should be to fill the east?

i think someone mentioned earlier in this thread.

it seems a good opportunity just to relive the north bank for some of these games, if not this one some pre-season friendlies? if the club were to open another stand then perhaps the north should be next rather than south or west?

Already on the case Sir!...

Can't wait, will be a good game. Is it a Southend XI v Derby? Anyone know any names playing in the Southend team? Let's give Spinner the send off he deserves!

Oh ****ing bollocks, I can't go. Think I may buy a ticket anyway and bung in to the end of season raffle on Saturday.
