Southend vs. Lincon

We were sh*te today, but still we should have won it, Pettefer had 2 clear chances to score but obviously didn't put them in.

Poor game today especially first half, cant really say we deserved more than a point. Neither side played particularly pretty football and there weren't that many clear chance. Lincoln were a disgrace and sadly the ref fell for their bullying tactics, why did they sign Asamoah he's tiny and they play long ball football?

Bentley was definitely MoTM, this was his kind of game and it showed. Won the ball back on numerous occasions and didn't stop battling. Thought Maher had a good game too and Che and Juppy defended very well. If we want to get promotion we should be winning nearly all of our home games from now on, we've had too many draws. We need to win at Cheltenham really, they lost 4-1 today so we should do.

You sound suprised ...

One was an outstanding save, the other was blocked by a defender. Bramble wouldn't have put in enough effort to make the run into the box

Also, glad to see Tilly make a few changes before the 80th minute for once!

Still lads, can't complain. My best season and I've been going since I was 5 (1996)

I hate being right!!

Mind you, with Maher missing the 2 games over the BH, im pretty sure Petts will move inside and Nicky will be on the left and Gower out on the right. Can see maybe 1 or 2 signings coming up especially if Lewis is out for a few weeks ...

when maher is out banned you watch the lack of command in the team.. spinner and barrett can lead this team to victory but we will be weak in the middle of the park...

Yeah I guess but I'm just glad h's missing the Rochdale and Cambridge games instead of some of the even bigger games we've got left:(

Did anyone else feel Dudfield for Gray was the wrong change today? The few times Gray got the ball on the floor and turned and ran at their defence he caused problems. Why did it take us 30mins to work outwe needed to play on the floor? It was obvious Lincoln had come to play hoof-ball and to try to drag us down to their level. Thank God I'm not a Lincoln fan I'd hate to watch that crap every week! Fredy was getting muscled out of the game and seemed to be looking for the free-kick every time. I would have swapped Eastwood for Dudfield.
Also, Gower had a very poor game, reluctant to take on Beevers at right back and always has to cut inside rather than go for the byline as he has no left foot. He doesnt give Che enough support when we have to defend. I would have taken him off at half time today. I think maybe Nicky Nic on the left and Gower on the right might be worth a try, at least at home where we need to be more attacking.
credit today I feel to Barratt, Prior, Jupp, Bentley, Maher and Gray who tried to stop us getting pinned back for long periods.
All in all a below par performance, maybe a bit of a hangover from Tuesday night and glad we dont have to play ngative teams like Lincoln every week.

In fairness we haven't played well at home in the league for longer than I can remember. Lincoln came with a gameplan, whether we like it or not, and almost sneaked a deserved victory. They were big, they were physical, BUT they weren't cynical like Chester.

It's no use blaming the referee for our performance or Lincoln's tactics. The squad needs strengthening if we are serious about promotion. Either way that is still 13 games unbeaten in all competitions. When was the last time we put anywhere near that sort of run together ?

I'm still not genuinely worried whether we achieve it or not this year as I'm happy to see the massive progress that continues to be made under Tilly and Brush.

Btw - their goal gave me the hump so much that I was half-way up the road and had to run back to the ground for the penalty.

Nothing wrong with the goal they scored and definitely nothing wrong with the goal they had disallowed. Yet again we failed to clear (when that was the simplest option) and almost got punished.

Apart from the fact that, in the build up Gray was scythed down from behind and the Lincoln winger handled the ball to keep it in play.................

Once again it was poor play from Pettefer but luckily the ref realised he'd made a big mistake by letting play continue and gave a free-kick for some reason ...
